Is tapping my 2 awg Amp wires for a winch advisable?

I know it's not ideal.. But wire is crazy expensive..

The set up would look like this:

I have a 5 channel Alpine under my rear seat with true 2 AWG wire feeding it from the battery.

I want to mount a 3,000 lb ATV winch in the front of my bed (for pulling a 300 lb jetski up a ramp into my truck)

Could I do this with a distribution block and separate breaker?
We are talking about maybe a 5 foot run from under the seat to the front of bed.
I would always turn the audio system off while winch in use.

Or am I asking for trouble?

I personally would run a separate cable because I like to isolate my audio from the rest of the vehicle but honestly I doubt you'll be pulling lots of power from the audio system when you're running the winch at the same time.

Thanks for the reply... I'm going to give it a try, It's just an ATV winch.. The wire that comes with it is only 6 awg.
Gonna put a quick disconnect kit on it as well, so it won't be drawing anything unless I use it.

Found another forum where guys talked about doing the same thing.. No issues.

If it was a full size winch, I would definitely make the long run.

i would be more concerned about the current draw under load and if your fusing can handle it.

it also depends on the brand of 2awg wire you have. if you have the cheap ebay kits more than likely its not the same wire count as a good say like a monster brand kit. wire is measured by the od so some of the cheaper companies use less strands on the wire itself.

ideally your amp should be able to be run off of a 4awg kit

Give it a shot. You can always opt to run the wire if it gives you any trouble.

or just add a separate battery to the truck bed for the winch

Just make sure you fuse the wire to the winch where you tap off from the main wire. The fuse at the battery is likely too big and would never trip if the winch shorts out.
