Is this thing speed governed?

Ran out of steam at 104 indicated. Didn’t feel like it was power, felt like it’s governed.
Felt just like one of those crappy rentals from the 90s that used to be governed to 85.

Can it be turned off easily?

Most likely. Same with 4th gens. Speed governed to 105. Usually due to tire ratings. If you check your tires they’re rated for such speed and they’ll limit your vehicle so you don’t go and blow your tires off. Need to get a tune to turn it off but that voids your warranty as you’ll need a new pcm to do that.

Yeah I think most cars are governed and have been since the 90's, I remember back then GM's were governed at 98 for trucks/suvs, 108 for their cars and higher for the performance cars. As was mentioned you can eliminate this but it's probably not worth the trouble/cost unless you want to tune it for other reasons.

Limited since the tires aren't designed for triple digits

Kind of funny in some respects. My Mercedes coupe has limited in the USA to 105 mph but per the law I had to buy expensive tires rated for 140 mph continuous running.

I noticed that as well and assumed it was due to tire restrictions.
It gets up to 100 faster than any pick up I've ever owned and most of my cars as well, but then it just hangs there with a mile of tach left...

What law and where? No law I’m aware of that can dictate what tire you must buy.

When i finally got HP Tuners last year and was able to check the tune on mine, it was limited to 106 mph. Not that i would need to go any faster than that..but i removed it anyway:driver:

My 19 classic is governed around 105-106. Looked up the speed rating on the factory tires, they're only rated "R" for 106mph. Thats probably the reason for the limiter. I'm gonna burn through these tires as fast as I can, so I can justify getting some with a higher speed rating around the time i get my tune. Preferably a "H" or "V" speed rating. Not that it's necessary, or that I would ever find it necessary to go that fast; I just like to know that I could if I needed to.
