I was out to make a grocery run, and the truck was misbehaving. The gas pedal felt weird. Felt funny to the foot, would maintain speeds with my foot off the gas pedal. I pulled off at a rest stop and stopped the truck, and cut the engine. Decided to restart to see if there was any difference and the engine raced to redline, and all kinds of lights were lit up in the dash. Cut the engine again, restarted, and again racing engine all kinds of lights. Turned if off, and did the only thing I could think of. I put the dog on the leash and went for a long walk. My mind was flooded with WTF!

Then I remember it was something to do with the pedal. Walked back to the truck, look at pedals. OMG, the pedal is missing. How can a pedal be missing? For a second and a half, I was in a state of panic. What happened to my gas pedal?!?!?!

Then I saw it, the rubber mat, that I had taken out yesterday to clean was miss placed and covering the pedal. I pulled the mat, put it back correctly, restarted the truck and all was good. Wow! This was a first for me. Completed my trip and all is 100% again.

Whew!
I did the same thing!

Black mat, black flooring, black pedal, it was bound to happen. Should gotten the pink mat with the zebra stripes. :D
Attack of the Killer Floor Mats. Glad U good, and OK, do not feel bad. You are not the first. Few years ago, Toyota had big issues with runaway gas pedals and they blamed it all on floor mats. But, goofing aside, Glad U be OK and hopefully yer 2025 ride be ok.

A little while back i watched a short video online of a mechanic trying to determine why the chevy truck would not start. It would just turn over a million miles an hour, but wouldnt start.

Turned out the floor mat was installed over the gas pedal, which was basically at wide open throttle. He pulled the mat and the truck fired right up lol. The owner even had to have it towed there !

I thought having the pedal pressed during startup disabled fuel, spark so the truck wouldn't start but cranks over...like to prime the system of oil.
My truck wont.i tried it after I read it here.
Am I mistaken?

Might be full pedal? Mine was ?. Could have been 90%, or XX%. I am NOT going to test it. My lesson is finished, complete, done.

Not pressed, but fully to the floor. I can tell U it works on my 2019, BUT I normally do not do as my 2019 never sits longer than a week.

I have checked on my 4 th gen and it will not fire when gas pedal is held to the floor,
I think most newer cars trucks are like that, not that I have checked
Now I have to go check the 2008 CRV as I have not before.

Back in Stone Age we just pulled the coil wire.

This reminds me of a “ hi end” dealership working on some imported expensive pos that stalled out, no fuel pressure, so ordered a pump, dropped the fuel tank after a few hours of work and tank was dry .
Gauge said 1/4, talked to owner and they said it has sat at 1/4 for a few days, which was news to the shop.

So they put the new pump in as it was there and the work was already up there.
This was out on the BC coast.

Known as flood clear mode, and was even used back in the day of carbureted engines, although somewhat different from modern vehicles.

Whenever my truck sits for several days, especially in the colder months, I mat the gas pedal, hold the brake and tap the start button.

AFAIK, the ECM interprets this as a command to defeat the ignition signal, and the starter will crank until you let off the accelerator pedal.

I let it crank for about 3-4 seconds, building the oil pressure and providing a bit of splash lube action, and then let off the accelerator. The truck usually starts instantly, without any rattling or other irregular noises.
