Was pondering the Idea of switching the the gear selector knob to a shifter when I do the console. Has anyone ever done this?

This isn’t possible. The 8 Speed transmissions or electronically shifted, which wouldn’t work with a column or floor shifter. You could easily do it with a 6 speed, though.

Isn’t possible may be harsh. Has anyone tried retroing a shifter from something like a Charger or Grand Cherokee, that also uses an 8 speed, but uses a more conventional shifter? It wouldn’t be a direct drop in, and would certainly require fabrication, but electronically, it may be compatible.

You get use to the dash selector until you hop into another vehicle like my wife's jeep wrangler unlimited and I end up cranking the radio everytime to put in drive lol.

I’m pretty curious to see someone research my idea of the Charger/Challenger/Grand Cherokee/Durango shifter idea. Maybe compare the plugs on the 1500 shifter and that shifter first, to see if they even use similar pin outs? The Charger shifters I believe all support autostick (I could be wrong), so that function wouldn’t work obviously. If there exists a non-autostick version, such a thing would be more desirable.
