Purchased used from another member here, decided I wanted to make it look BAD A$$! Spent a couple of hours today prepping and painting the filter lid and wrapping the textured plastic in 4D carbon fiber. And I have to say it looks pretty awesome. Install took 30 min roughly including removing the stock intake, removing engine cover and installing breather under the cover. I also emptied my oil catch can as well. The filter lid has been painted with 650*F burnt copper (one of my favorite colors) and then cleared with 500*F engine enamel so cleaning is easier.

This color scheme and carbon fiber is going to be my theme for the truck as time goes on, just waiting to paint things like calipers and stuff as the truck is a lease and don't know what the policy is on that… even if I'm 90% sure Im going to purchase the truck at the end of the lease.

I didn't want to cut up the stock rad cover so Im going to look for a used one or aftermarket to hack up and finish the install. Here are some pics for your viewing pleasure, sorry about the quality as its 2am here and pitch black so its just the camera flash.

Very cool man! I have a roll of that 4D cf sitting here, too. ;)

I put some on the VaraRam filter cover, but I really like what you did with it!

Looks good.. You use that VHT paint?

Yes, VHT. I had some left over from my homemade rear turbo motor cycle build. The clear I'd a harbor freight brand 500*F clear that I also had layin around. I havent had good luck with VHT clear coats.

Edit: spelling mistske, VHT cleAR coats don't work for me.

Thanks!

On a side note with the vararam intake… does the bottom air deflector get supported by anything? I mean it kinda just hangs there and at 55+ mpg I would think a good bit of force from the incoming air might break it?

Looks Amazing!

I would wear out my hood latch and hinges in a very short time... I'm one though who would wake up in the middle of the night just to go out in the garage and pop the hood just to look at it... Yes I have a Serious Problem!

Great Job Blackbetty!! Looks Awesome!!! 2 Huge Thumbs Up!

Looks really good.
I did the same thing... got one used for less than half price and fixed it up. Otherwise, they look like $10 worth of plastic under an overpriced filter and I just couldn't justify the cost. :D
