Well i won a $50 gift card from the gas station on Ft Carson army base and decided might as well put it in the gas tank. I go inside to prepay and as im approaching my truck there is a military police officer parked to my right. He asked is this your truck so i replied yes it is and he said we have a problem. In my head im thinking what could i have done, anyways he said i opened my patrol car door the wind caught it and slammed into your truck. He then asked do you want it fixed and i said definitely. He claims that since it was his fault and a govt vehicle that the Army(govt) will cover it without contacting my insurance. Im not sure how it works as ive never been in an accident so im gonna cross my fingers. Its not too bad but more than a regular door ding, heres some pics. It actually looks worse in person lol.

That sucks. Hopefully they take care of it quickly. Did you get all of his info before he left? I would still let your insurance company know what happened so that there is no chance of the officer saying it never happened.

I did get his info and after my appointment i was heading to i went to the police station and he wrote up a report and said i could pick a copy up in 10-14 days. I was worried about contacting my insurance company bc i dont want my rates to go up. I had a hit and run several years ago it was a minor dent so i called them to see what could be done and they told me nothing bc there was no witnesses. After me calling them they bumped my premium up bc i called them on the matter. by the way was a different ins company. so i guess i will give them a call and see what happens.

As long as you have something in writing from the police dept, then you should be fine. I hope it all works out for you without too much hassle. These situations always seem to be a pain. My wife was rear ended by a cop at a red light a few years and it took the city 2 months to fix the car.

City paid for all the damage, and I had 2 vehicles at the time, so I let her use my other vehicle. I dont know if they would have covered a rental or not.

Yea thats kinda why i put it up is bc it was a officer lol. And also to see if anyone else has had anything similar happen.

I contacted my ins. co. and they said let them take care of it without filing a claim on my side unless it gets hairy. So she documented it so hopefully im covered either way.

I had winds catch my door at a gas station once coming home from a Metallica concert. Damn near ripped my door off. Both my doors actually as I had a passenger in the backseat that opened up just as I did.

Got a quote from a body shop today and for that small dent its almost $1000 for repairs. So hopefully the army does pay for it. On a good note i entered a contest on fb and won a hypertech max energy power programer for our 3rd gen rams gas engines. dk what I'll do with it since i already have a superchips tuner. Maybe it will be on the classifieds here soon.

I'm at Fort Carson, too. I had the same thing happen to me a few months back. Opened my door, wind caught it and slammed it into a Jaguar. I left my info, called the insurance, and they said it would be covered with no cost to me. When the owner called me back a couple days later, found out he was a SGM.

A SGM and a jaguar lol was he rude or pi**ed? At least you was honest I've had so many small door dings and scrapes but the people who did it had no integrity.
