Hi everyone. I own a 32ft tt. It weighs 7500-8000 lbs and has a tongue weight of 1080. I had test drove a 2015 tondra and a 2016 Chevy 1500 with the 5.3L and they both towed great. I own a 2015 f150 and I am having major sway issues. I was in a 2016 limited 1500 today but did not get a chance to tow because they only had the v6 desiel. I am thinking of a 2016 1500 limited crew shortbox 4x4 with the 3.92 axle ratio. Any thoughts. Just want to hear from some that may have some experience with this. I cannot have another issue like the Ford and I don't want to go to a 3/4 ton. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

While I don't want to talk you out of a Ram.

Do you have sway control and or weight distribution on your trailer/F-150 combo?

Guy, you need a 3/4 ton, regardless of brand.
I pull a 7K 32', and WISH I could buy a 3/4. It's taken me 3 years of dialing in my hitch, upgrading the trailer axles, tires and springs to get it manageable.

7.5-8K and 32' it a lot of weight AND a lot of side area for a half ton- ANY half ton. No one truck is going to be measurably better than another. You need the frame and brakes of a 3/4 in front of that trailer. Nothing more I can say.

That Limited you test drove only has a payload of 1238# and max tow of 9950#. The air suspension on the Limited model reduces the tow capacity. Keep looking but with that much tongue weight you will need a 2500. IMHO the best looking 2500 is the GMC Denali 6L. Good Luck

I agree...a 2500 with a WD and anti-sway hitch will tow that trailer easily.

Not so much with a 1500, regardless of the hitch used.

Yup 3/4 ton. Have similar specs on our TT and went from a half ton to a 2500 and night and day difference in towing. Plus you'll be over you tongue and payload rating.

Yepyep. Best you can do with the 1/2 ton is max it out. Shortbox? Beggin' for wiggle on those coils even with airbag assist. Go 3/4 ton unless yer yanking slowly over a short distance a few times each summer.

If you're dead set on NOT having a 2500/ 250 (which you likely should) I would say that you should go to a previous gen F150 or if a Ram is on your radar, a stripped out lower trim so you can handle the weight. If you want all the luxuries, a 2500 is the choice. The previous gen F150 was incredibly stable compared to the new PepsiCo F150. Personally, I enjoyed the Ram 1500 for towing- it outperformed my F150, however I did not have that massive trailer either.

For what it's worth, you aren't the first guy online to say the new F150s suck for towing stability.

All of the above, or get a shorter travel trailer.

I agree. Except the length. Just trade it on a lighter one if you can. My 30' is 6700lbs empty. At 8000lbs I towed with my ram 1500 Eco, using weight distribution and anti-away attached.

Pulled similar with both a ram 1500 and ram 2500 diesel. If you have the money go with the 2500 no question. It is doable with the half ton legally, but you will be adding airbag, sway control weight distribution and spend a lot on gas. You will white knuckle a few windy days and wish you had the 3/4 ton. But it is doable.
