I've found a set of 9005/HB3 and a set of H11 LED bulbs. I'm just wondering if they could work for headlights. They are being listed for fog light replacement. I plan on switching from the dual headlight set up to a quads and am looking for an alternative to HID's. If any one has ever heard of anyone using LED's for driving lights let me know.

i could be wrong but i would think the way led's work that they would not be suitable for headlights

my thoughts are that if you have the quad headlight set up (one bulb for Hi and one for Low) that the LED's should work. Unlike the dual set up where you have one bulb for HI and Low. Where a switchback style of bulb in theory could work if their was a H13/9008 style.

you'd have to do some constructive wiring............the H11 is the low in the quads. LEDs just aren't bright enough for driving.

I haven't been able to find much on LED headlights. I few cars have them as options like the prius, escalade, audi a8, and a few other hi end cars. But nothing for aftermarket lighting yet.

I know if you used rugged lighting or vision x those put out a Ton of light (seen it first hand) but idk how you'd get that in a headlight.

There are a couple of led headlight swaps for generic 7" round lights (like jeeps). Trucklites makes a set.
They're also used a lot on military vehicles as a retrofit for better light in the desert for the durability factor.
But they kinda suck compared to hids. ESP at $700/pr!
The pattern is funky with hotspots. Plus they don't seem to reach out as far as hids lots if light up close though.
Another factor is if you live in an area that sees a lot of snow, hids and halogens make more heat so they'll melt the snow and ice off the headlamps. LEDs won't.

i think someone on the cummins forum was doing a retro fit with those lights. Don't remember how it turned out or if he was able to get it to work. I found a couple of youtube videos where people where using LED's. They looked bright enough but I don't think they had the reach of HID's or halogen bulbs. probably good for city driving. not out in the country.

an update on the whole LED light idea. A company called truck lite has come out with LED Hi/Low light for wrangers. Although jeeps lights are easy to upgrade the concept of LED driving lights for the aftermarket are coming, slowly but coming.
