Hi there,

I am gonna buy a 3" BL soon.i just can't decide if i should get the kit that includes the leveling kit. What keeps me from pulling the trigger is the following concern:
Can i install those front spacers on my own, too? I am driving a 09 2wd 1500 and never removed any suspension parts before.
Since a bunch of you guys installed spacers before, what do you think?
Do you maybe know a good video on this topic?

Thx a lot in advance
Dennis

Just be sure it will work on your truck. I think there's a difference in using spacers for leveling between 2WD and 4WD. If you think you can get through a body lift, you should be fine with leveling.

Being an '09 though, be prepared to fight some nuts and bolts. I had a hell of a time getting my lower shock bolt out on the driver's side. Thought I was gonna have to get a new bushing for it.

Just remember you need to torque to spec and have it aligned after leveling. Are you looking at the Performance Accessories 5" lift?

Yes.that is what i am thinking of.i am pretty much stuck between the 3" and the 5" kit.especially since i Need an alignment anyway.
Although the 5" kit might have a Need for bigger tires, right? That would suck!

The 3" pa bodylift will work on your truck, but that leveling kit won't. I believe it is for 4wd only. And yea, the tires will look a little small with 5"

You don't "have" to run bigger tires, but they may look small. I don't know if you can get the combo in 2WD drive though. I do know there is a difference in the spacers for a 2WD compared to a 4WD. Just make sure you get the right ones.

You don't need an alignment for the 3" body lift though. That only for if you do the level.

I'm running Bilstein 5100's at 2.8" with 1.75" rear coil spacers in my signature pic. Still sitting on 33's and I don't think it looks bad at all. I do have a 3" body lift sitting at the house waiting for the weather to break so I can install it. I also have new wheels and 35" tires on the way for when the body lift is done.

Maybe some 2WD guys will get in here and help you out on the spacer question though. But Performance Accessories has both a 2WD leveling kit and 4WD leveling kit.

if you buy the PA 5 inch lift all of that will fit, no problem, not really that hard to install the spacers, if you can put in the body lift you will have no problem, you wont need a spring compressor for the 2 inch spacer, a manual helps, if you have any questions we are here to answer and to help...I have pictures of my stock wheels and tires on my 7 inch lift didnt look that bad, I have installed 6 of the BL and spacer kits so far.....

Just noticed they do have a 5" lift for the 2WD. I could never find it before. It is different than the 5" lift for the 4WD though. You will need part number PLS602 if you go for 5". That is the 3" body lift with what the instructions say is 2" front and 1.5" rear leveling kit.

thank you SOOO much for your help so far and the offer to keep on annoying until i get is;-).
the BL doesn´t seem to be that hard. but taking off a bunch of parts on the front axle "scares" me a little to be honest:-/. will the spacer just be added on top of the coil spring - without any compressor or so? the PA instructions are not as clear as i wished they would be. what can go wrong by installing the spacers/taking off the parts before:)?

@BULLRAM: what tire size are u running now?

hey cruizer,
that is the kit i was talking about - although i don´t know if i need the rear spacer. thies would keep the rake and the install is a little harder than the front i guess, since a spring compressor might be needed. or am i totally wrong there?

No spring compressor needed for rear. It's a lot easier than the front. If you need more room Jack up the opposite side than your working on for extra clearance. Just be mindful of lines.
Also go over the instructions. Lay out every tool needed. Cups labeled for bolts. The night before spray penetrating lube on everything getting removed.

Spacer goes on top of the coil spring, the spacer for the rear will put the rake back in it if you want it, no spring compressor needed, pretty straight forward to install, there are videos of an older dodge on the net you can watch the BL install. Motivation is how most people do things.i always do the rear bed first, its easier and shows you how high it wil lbe, it really makes you get after it...do one side then the other on the BL, use 2x4's to support the bed up till you get the blocks in, have a helper it always works better.

Sorry,i don't get it.why/how do i get more clearance by jacking up the opposite side?

What do u mean by "be mindful of line"?

When you jack the other side up it lowers the opposite side. Also be mindful of any break lines or any other lines hoses or wires that might stretch or break if you bind it to far.

It's just how a solid axle works. If you think about the driveshaft and axle being a T (looking from above) you would need the raise drivers side to lower passenger side.

Motivation is not the Problem.it's enough for three of us:)!!
What do u mean by "2x4's to support the bed". Do the crush blocks need a welder?

And he is saying be mindful of brake lines connected to the axle and the hub assemblies. Basically brake lines connected to anything that is going to be raised or lowered.
