Anyone know how long they last? I change my oil every 5k full synthetic. It seems to run like butter I just bought a 4th gen back in november seems to just keep on burning gas and going. Put in a new trans and its good now. Reliable to me so far. Anything I should know? Drove about 5k miles or so since I bought it

Depends if you take care of it and how many miles ya got on it? At some point you may need to change the timing chains/guides and a lifter or 2 but other then that iv gotten 200k out of them in my jeeps.

I'm the 5th owner but It was fleet maintained by all different commercial companys. So maintenance was done. Runs strong besides trans blowing, costed alot but runs like a dream. All of the maintenance records are on carfax by dealership

Bought a new 2004 grand Cherokee limited for the wife. Traded it in 2016 with 240000 miles and was running fine. I was talking to one of the techs while wife was looking at new vehicles and he bought from me for his daughter to use as a daily driver for local college. Last time we spoke, at around 280000 he replaced the head gasket, and valve seats. Like you ,5000 mile oci with M1. Don't over look maintaining the cooling system. I have been told, if these engines overheat, they're done.

My 2013 RAM 1500 with the 4.7L/6SP has lasted to 423K, and she’s still going strong and strangely feels like a new engine! Just take care of her and she’ll last forever.

50 miles then change to a hemi

TBH 4.7s last longer then these 4th gen hemi engines you dont see 4.7s blowing cams and sounding like a sewing machine also they dont have this **** MDS . Yea maybe needs a timing chain once in its life but that's common most ppl overheat their 4.7s and then blame the engine.

However the hemi is a more powerful fun engine personally I would never own a ram with a 4.7 its to small lacks power for towing.

I was told,is it true that it was the 4.7 that was dropping valve seats and valves?

If you overheat them yes but the hemi does the same any modern engine you overheat basically will do this. I have worked on a ton of 4.7 have never seen a valve drop unless overheated.

I had the 4.7 in my Dakota before I sold it to my grandfather. It had 160K on it 2 years ago when I sold it and there wasn't a single thing wrong with it. My grandfather uses it to run around the city to keep miles off of his 2500 and is just easier to drive. Still runs perfectly fine, I always ran full synthetic Mobile 1 in it. I had the water pump slowly go at about 140K but other than that no issues. Was the perfect motor for that truck and I intend on buying it back when he's done with it.

I’m guessing it was never taken care of correctly? I mean, they’re great motors when you TAKE CARE of them. I mean, mine does have 423K on it, after all.

It drops valve seats and valves when it’s not cared for correctly, and if you follow these quite frank idiots online telling you to go 10K+ miles on conventional oil you’re going to completely mess up your engine and sludge it up so bad that you’re going to have major issues, as with any engine.

Yes it was properly taken care of!!
I'm very meticulous in doing maintenance and PM's on all my vehicles.
Like I said 15K miles. All oil changes an fluid checks done at the dealership.

You never trust a dealership to do anything but recalls, just sayin.
