Do any of you guys get the lifter noise on first start up? I have almost 12k on my 6.4 now. It has been doing it since new pretty much, not all the time though its random and will only do it for about 2 seconds. But, 2 seconds is a long time. I know there were lifter problems in the 3rd gens.

Yes it is a very common problem that pretty much happens to all Hemis at some point. Put you some Redline 5W40 in it with a good filter and you'll be amazed at how quiet it will be. Nice pic you got there too!

I was thinking of trying different oil, but from what I have read and been told, these 6.4s are picky on oil and you should use the recommended pennzoil.

Yes, very picky, but that doesn't mean you're stuck with Pennzoil. My 5.7 absolutely hated PP.

Lifter noise at start up is common. I found Amsoil helps a lot compared to PUP.

Like I said, they are picky, Amsoil works for some, not others, m1 also works for some. Redline seems to have the biggest success rate but that being said it's still not a 100% gaurantee. You just have to see what you're engine likes.

I am due for an oil change soon. I just ordered the Pennzoil. Does redline make a 0w-40?

Yes they do, however I think most that have the 6.4 are running 5/40. Hopefully they will chime in with some advise.

I actually had a stuck lifter on my 2015 Ram. The dealership replaced all of the lifters on the driver’s side under warranty. I have used either PUP or Amsoil Signature Synthetic 0w-40 since I bought the truck new. I still get lifter tick every now and again. Im not too worried about it though.
