I always put mine in manual 6th to lock it out. In fact, I filled it up Wednesday and have put about 200 miles on it since with about 95% of that being highway with MDS locked out. My EVIC says average speed so far is 45MPH and my EVIC says 15.8MPG but it is normally about .5 over hand calculated. But today on the way home I initially forgot to lock it out and my 'real time' MPG read 22 on the highway but I manually locked it out and the 'real time' dropped to 19. Road seemed as flat as I could get it and cruise was set at 69 MPH

Tow/haul isn't the same as manually using 6th. Tow/haul raises shift points, which raises RPM's. My trucks were harder on fuel using tow/haul than they were just using 6th manually. Manual still lets it shift into 6th and keeps the normal shift points. I do use tow/haul if I'm just running across town just because of convenience but anything more than that I use the manual mode. If towing then I use tow/haul.

I dont know of any way for Alfa to permanently turn off MDS.

And overall, I dont feel like MDS hinders performance of the truck *depending on how you are driving it*. If I really lean into it, MDS doesnt really activate until I back out of the throttle and put the truck under very little load.

Yes, there is a lag time when coming back OUT of MDS, but its not like the engine has 200HP with MDS "on" but not activated, and 395HP with MDS "off" but not activated.

The biggest improvement from a non-tune non-mechanical-change, I think, is the pedal commander (or knockoffs of it). And all that really does is mess with the amount of voltage the ECU sees in regard to pedal position. it doesnt "improve" performance, it just changes the "sweep" of the fun pedal.

On my 2nd CC 4X4 5.7 8 speed 3:21's and really don't see an issue with leaving the MDS on.In fact it hardly ever comes on in my daily drive and if it does it comes off real quick if you even breath on the gas pedal

I read about the mds system about three years ago and FCA said they did testing on the four cylinders that shut down and after extensive testing the wear was very minimal on those cylinders. There was concern about the same four cylinders being shutdown but supposedly it is okay as designed.

I heard this as well, and the reason for minimal wear was attributed to the design the used which was to take in fuel wait until compression spark plug ignites after that the valves stay closed keeping the pressured up cylinder acting like a spring. I don't believe other manufacturers do this.
