What are your opinions of towing? Is towing a arc on a 5x8 trailer considered heavy enough to use Tow/haul mode? It just sucks if gas really. Have not found any recommendations from RAM when to really use this mode, it just says towing.,.,

If you find that you need to use a lot of brake pedal to come to a stop, or the truck wants to accelerate while going down hills the tow/haul mode will help a bit with that by increasing engine braking behavior. No harm. I tap the button any time I have a trailer even empty.

Why doesn't everyone just drive their truck how they want to and respect how other people drive their own trucks? You paid for your vehicle, drive it however you want.
I'm not for or against MDS but I don't see why everyone's getting up in arms about how other people drive their own truck...

Since running with it turned off, not one vibration, not one shudder, say what you will about whether you noticed it activating or not but I felt it every time, and now I don’t. Non-MDS in my opinion is the way to go, but as Digital Underground use to say, Dowhatchalike!

Agreed. I can 100% tell on all 3 of my Rams (2007, 2013 and 2018)

To the op or anyone in this thread when you use +/- to disable mds, by the D does it show what current gear you are driving? A while back with alphaobd I enabled something to do with gear display, I was hoping that it would show what gear I was currently in but nothing. I haven't manually selected the gear since, but today I tried and noticed by the D that it was showing what gear I was currently in. Initially when I selected through to gear 6 it showed i was in 3rd. As it shifted through the gears the display changed. Just curious if this display is factory or if this is what I enabled with alphaobd.

That's factory. The first number is actual gear, second is the max gear it will go to.

OK. It's been awhile since I've used the manual gear select and knew I tried something with alphaobd that did nothing at the time.

They must have changed this sometime between 2013-2017. I had a 2013 that would only display the gear I selected, but when I got my 2017 I noticed it would show both the gear I selected and the gear presently in.

Only the LCD gauge cluster shows the gear you're in. If you have the base cluster or one of the pre-2013 premium clusters it doesn't show it.

I love to listen to all this fantasy about MDS and the huge performance gains you get if you turn it off. Only time it causes aggravation is if you have put an after market loud exhaust on the truck because it sounds like crap when it goes into four cylinder mode. If you leave the factory exhaust on you will not hear it shift in or out. You can line up two Rams equipped alike and both factory stock with no mods at all including tires and wheels turn off MDS on one Truck and leave the other one with the MDS on take off foot to floor and there will be no difference. The one with the MDS manually cut off will have zero advantage over the one with MDS still on. Now if you also cut traction control off on the truck with MDS turned off as one person said on this post then this truck will be at a large disadvantage and the truck with MDS and Traction control still on will pull out in front and leave the other truck behind. Reason being without Traction control on it will break the tires loose while the other truck will have little or no tire spin. Since 2009 when I got my first half ton Ram with a 5.7 Hemi I have logged about 900,000 miles on six half ton Rams including my new 2019. I feel like I have had plenty of experience with the Hemi with MDS I never notice it, could be my driving habits since I leave a stop hard and generally run seventy to eighty five mph on the highway.
Yea man I’m talking about pep not drag racing... mds of, tc off and th mode on does make my truck peppier also I know the second that mds kicks in, it make the truck lag

That is the same as my 2014, I as a rule just leave it in drive, but as cold weather is here, I been using the buttons a bit more, Thinking that the heat may come up a bit faster??? If I hit the button on the wheel at slow speed, that is the highest gear it will select, but you can increase it with the + button.
Or does it go back to D, will have try it again.
I find my MDS comes on at real slow, 30km, 20 mph , but I am no putting my foot into it with ice all over hell. I don't mind MDS at all, a little pressure will also turn it off, I have had it stay on at speed, unless in the hill at 120km+ around 75mph, and average 10-12 liter/ 100km mid /high 20 mpg?? I have not really figured out, on the honda, at 10 L/100K, it worked out to 30mpg (imperial)
Of course if you drive it like a hemi, all these # don't mean ****.

Please, what setting in alphaobd did you use to turn this off? I've yet to find it. And in the alphaobd thread they say it can't be done with the app, that you need to use a tuner.

I had it done for me. The guy that done it said its perminately disabled. I dont see the eco light and I dont feel the drone of the mds. I don't know what all he did but it's off and the speed limiter is off as well. The guy that done it works for a Ram dealer.
So maybe he used something other than the Alphaobd app.
My apologies if I misstated my original post.

I leave mine alone, but I totally agree, with you I will feel a shutter, or it doesn't sound quite right, and I think UH OH, and look down, and the eco is on. Though after three, Rams I don't notice it quite as often any more, guess they have trained me not to listen to the engine. Oh and its completely stock (no aftermarket exhaust) Still cracks me up Ford uses fake sound:)

I am shocked at how many of you notice as it goes in and out of Eco. I have had two of these trucks with this mode and never noticed then or now. I even tried yesterday running in 8 instead of drive then accelerate briskly then do the same thing in D while eco on and I feel zero difference. I don’t claim to be an expert but I have set numerous land speed records on motorcycles at over 200mph so I am no stranger to power or speed etc. It’s that that in my daily driver I don’t notice anything. Except lower MPG with eco not running and in 8th gear

I just recently installed a PedalCommander. I think that would solve your issue with the MDS system. It changes the vehicle major. Quick throttle response, and when you put it in the sport mode or the sport + mode, it really cranks. And, I don't think it will go into MDS in those modes. That's worth a try. Really like the modification.
