I ordered a 3/4 Ton Laramie diesel, perhaps a bad idea given that the price of diesel is going thru the roof.

I use the truck to haul off heavy concrete slabs from work on my property, and perhaps some tree trunks.
When I move I will be towing my trailer loaded with household goods and equipment. Will move East or West from Iowa.
I am thinking, maybe walk away from the deal and lose my deposit. It's a nice truck, 85K+, but nice isn't everything. Maybe go down to Texas and get a late model 1500 Laramie which will probably be 70K+. On short order, it will probably do the job, hauling the slabs about five miles, maybe 4-5 loads.
Any thoughts ??

you should be able to get your deposit back, as they will still sell the pickup...with the current lack of 'on lot' inventory, it won't last.

As for 1500 or 2500...are you loading the bed or a trailer? The 2500 will definitely pull more, but depending on trim level, bed hauling (weight capacity) between a 1500 & diesel powered 2500 is probably closer than you think.

Purchase based upon your own needs and what you’ll do with the truck. There’s always a trade off, and you’ll never end chasing that rabbit around.

Myself, I have a 1500 simply because I just don’t have the need for a 2500.

Would I ever get one? Hell yes……. It’s a Badass looking Ram :waytogo:

I ordered auto level suspension. I am loading a dump trailer with the slabs, probably total about 14000 Ibs.
Used truck probably 70K+, maybe less for a 1/2 ton 5.7 Hemi. I suspect much worse on milage.

If your towing, as I’m sure others will chime in, both can do it.

Its just that one will do it a bit easier with less wear & tear over time. Towing 1-3 times a year…. Big deal. Doing so every week…. That’s when I might reconsider which path to go.

Thanx All !
I might stick with the 2500 and hope that diesel comes down in price, right now $4.69 where I live, probably more if I go east or west.
I have another month, or so to decide.

Towing 14,000 lbs with a 1500, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh, not really, 2500 to more like 3500 territory. Just IMHO.......

Your not going to want to pull a 14K lbs dump trailer on a regular basis with a 1500. What's the dump trailer weigh empty, close to 5K? A load of concrete adds up fast. Let alone when the payload police see this you better be wearing your fireproof undies!
If your going to be Towing/Hauling a lot you'll probably be further ahead fuel economy wise even with the higher price of diesel. You could always switch the 6.4L with 4.10, the 8spd makes a huge difference on how those trucks pull/drive but the fuel economy maybe a single digit.

No crystal ball here but the various states tax diesel more aggressively than gasoline. Don't focus on the pump price, calculate the cost to drive per mile between diesel and gas, this along with vehicle capability will give you an answer.

In my area, SE Michigan, diesel was often about the same price as regular or slightly more and slightly less. It depended on what area of SE Michigan you were in. I was comfortable with the fuel pricing so last November I ordered an ECODiesel to replace my aging HEMI. Wouldn't you know it, the truck came in mid-January this year, about the same time diesel prices shot up sometimes as much as a buck more per gallon over gas. Right now, diesel is up about $0.50 per gallon over regular gas but the cost to drive one mile on diesel is significantly less than gas.

One Iowan to another (from North Central IA) stick with the Diesel, I think you'll be much happier and when you go to sell it some day it will be worth a lot more then a 1500 with the same mileage as diesel truck hold their value better then a gas truck... Oh if don't need everything in a Laramie a nice equipped Bighorn cost less ($70K), I know as I just picked mine up a few weeks ago...
