Guys, i am looking for a new truck, not really sure why, but I am (supposedly Dad is buying).

Needs to tow about 12K which means 2500. it will probably be my daily truck as my 1500 will go to my dad, Now my problem is Gas or Diesel. I REALLY REALLY don't want a Cummins due to the emissions stuff. and the price of diesel, and the fact that its going to be my daily driver and I hear horror stories about having problems with them, with the REGEN procedures and short trips. My commute to work is literally 10 minutes and about 4 miles.

Towing will be once and a while thing, not a constant daily thing. Just need to move the skid loader, excavator, and roller around to different job sites once and while. (we have a chevy 3500 dump, but that seems to spend a lot of time in our shop lately.)

So, with all that said, what is everyone else's opinions?
I'm not looking to make this purchase this week, or even this year. and options, I like options. like leather, and stuff like that.

6.4 hemi and 2500 or 3500 depending on desired payload versus ride. 2500 has coils where the 3500 has leaf springs so will ride rougher.

definitely don't want the 3500 rides rough. lol the wife will not approve...payload doesn't bother me. not going to have much in the truck while towing besides 1 or 2 people.

yeah, just built a 2014 Ram 2500 LARAMIE LIMITED MEGA CAB® 4X4 6'4" BOX....price is reasonable. More then my first house though, and I am still living in that house btw.

I need to talk to dad and see what his thoughts are. If I get a new ride, I better get it the way I want it. considering l love my current truck.

Anyone here have a 2014 Ram 2500 LARAMIE LIMITED MEGA CAB® 4X4 6'4" BOX or 2013? thoughts? interior photos?

From what I read on the diesel forums when I had my eye on one is as long as you take it out for a long drive on the weekends, change oil more frequently you wont have any issues... That said that 6.4 seems to be a great set up and many people getting them, not to mention how inexpensive they are right now, theres a 6.4 CC tradesman for 32k here in Charlotte

I think I will stick with the gasoline. Diesel just isn't for me. i mean the diesel would be nice, but i just can't justify the higher upfront cost, and maintenance

Agree for your use, gas is better. short tripping it, and the diesel doesn't warm up, is not going to give much MPG difference from what I've seen on Fuelly.

If I did it again, I'd go for the 4.10 gears too.

I love my 2014 2500 with Cummins and I'm getting better fuel economy, but to each his own. I've had zero problems with it.

Go 6.4 2500 you'll have plenty of payload and power.

I'm not completely unopposed to diesel..

Cant imagine the fuel mileage being that much worse than 3.73 especially on your short commute. You can buy a lot of fuel for the cost of a diesel upgrade.

There is a thread about it average on 3.73 is 13.9 and 4.10 is 12.8. The mpg difference is less than 2mpg and highest mpg was 4.10 axle at 17mpg.

I see...I see those numbers now. the best I have seen was 14mpg mixed usage in my 1500 hemi crew.

The problem with that thread is it kind of died and there wasn't a big sample size. I'm getting whatever my Fuelly sig says for an average mileage. Like said above if I had to do it over I would get 4.10's. In all reality I would get a power wagon if I had to do it over. The payload on my truck is around 3100 lbs so that is plenty for towing pretty much anything. The only time I would go to a 3500 is if I were getting a Cummins as that drops the payload by 1000 pounds or so.

Don't have the Laramie but do have the 2014 mega cab big horn with the 6.4 3.73 combo and love it. Was in the same boat as you diesel or has and since it's my daily driver with shorter trips I figured gas was the way to go. Plus volly firefighter the diesels don't like to wake up at 3am on a zero degree day.
