I live in the ****-me-in-the-ass state, over 11% in fees on purchase (includes sales tax, licensing, etc..), over $400 a year for registeration, and then add the smog/carb ****: restrictions, emmission testing, fees, etc..

Oh, and $120 a month for insurance on my Ram: almost 40 years old, no tickets on my record, no accidents EVER... :**** Eater:

Holy heck. Man, that's :***: as hell right there. That would kill me to have to pay that much.

I thought NY was bad. We pay 8% sales tax at the time of purchase then about $100 every 2yrs for registration.

I renewed mine last month and paid $80 for the year, Canadian, so that's ~$65 for the year and no inspection, smog, or anything else, just registration renewal.

You come survive one of our 6-7 month winters (where you see Celcius and Farenheit get together at -40) and THEN tell us why it's so expensive there again. It's worth the $$ IMO.

Actually, I have a sister in Three Hills and I built a house up there with her, even working throught the winter... So I have flown (even driven) up there over 50 times. I know what it's like up there. IT'S ******* COLD! Lol!

I am not a California native, I am German born and raised, so I am used to cold snowy winters...

Personally, I would give up my SoCal life in a heartbeat. I lived in the Seattle area for 5 years, and I dream of moving back up there, again. For me, that is the best place in America to live.

In Texas we pay 6.25% sales taxes when you purchase a vehicle then its about $60 a year for registration.

I'll chime in for Ontario, 13% sales tax on top of purchase price - vehicle needs to pass emissions & safety (to make sure everything is in good condition, certified by a licensed mechanic) to get tags and a "commercial" plate for a full size pickup - all that adds to up about $250'ish - most times a dealer will get it all done for ya.

I believe tags are $75 per year and you can get 2 year tags if you like..which is what I did.

Emissions pass is valid for 2 years. Safety is normally if you're buying and registering a new vehicle in your name (pre-owned too of course, new to you). Valid for 36 days after certification, for a new registration.

(There are lots of Pakistani mechanics here that will pass anything for cash though)

Here in quebec i think its the tax cash grab capital of canada
Regular plate renewal every year is about 240 for every passenger vehicle, on top of that there is what i call the hemi tax, every .1 of displacement over 4 litres is taxed up untill 5.2 litres, then its flat rate of 160$
Then on top of that there is a luxury tax if your vehicle is less then 7 years old and more than 40k
Then if you live in a public transit zone theres another 45$
All in all i pay 430$ a year for plates. No inspections here.

Really? That's not far from me at all! Interesting perspective that youwould give up SoCal. Seattle is so dreary all winter.

I know it's close to you. :)

This might sound crazy, but sunny and warm EVERYDAY gets old, too.

I hear you there. I was in San Francisco last week (yes, the earthquake was fun for a midwesterner), and although it was 65 every day, I couldn't live there year round. I need variety. Of course, it's been 99 here the past few days and that 65 sounds pretty nice right now, but still. 0 in the winter and 100 in the summer is what I'm used to.
