Sounds like an upper valve-train issue. I had a rocker come off on my old '94 Ram that sounded like that. Fortunately, it didn't damage anything. Hope it is something simple like that.

Top of engine so probably valve train: lifter, seat etc--something sucking or failing.
Warranty 5 years 100K miles on drivetrain so you should be alright.

Hey socalledchad,

Let me know if you need any further assistance after the diagnosis comes back.

I still haven't heard back...I too it to my local family owned shop in my small town I've used a few times on older cars....it didn't cross my mind that it may be under drive train warranty....it also happened a mile from their shop....I wonder if I should take it to the dealer 30 miles down the road

Yes definitely take it to dealer. Curious, what oil and filter do you use?

Sounds like the mechanics thinking a cam phaser problem. ...does anyone know if that's covered on the power train warranty for a 2013 with 50k?

yup should be covered and expensive, plus whenever dealer puts in a part good for 12k or a year I believe.

Hi socalledchad,

There are camshaft phasers in the engine. The dealership will likely do their own diagnostics when you take the vehicle in to them, as they do not usually base decisions off of information from a third party mechanic. The technicians will know the vehicle--it's possible the service advisor/writer you spoke with was unfamiliar with the technical terminology.

Here is the relevant portion of the drivetrain warranty--its in there, so FCA is the right place to go for repair.

Got it over to the dealer...all I know so far is they are ordering pushrods and valves...all covered under warranty thank god...I didn't get all the information because the guy who knew what was going on wasn't around when I called..but this guy mentioned a top end rebuild..will keep this updated..hopefully it's just me who has this problem. ...no idea what caused it
