Low Sprag Inner Race wear anyone seen this? is it okay? I doubt it but I figured I would ask. I have never seen it before. Its on both the 46re transmissions I'm rebuilding.

I'm not sure, I know some aluminium/soft steel parts were used in places that tool steel should've been used. As for what is normal, i'm unsure very few people on here have rebuilt enough automatic transmissions to know too much about it.

I know I can order both parts for a little over 100$ but its the wait that's killing me. Seems very unintelligent there isn't a bearing here instead of a race on a aluminum part.

How are the surfaces that the sprag actually touches..as long as there isn't a bunch of slop when you drop the drum in between the sprag and the drum you should be fine the sprag takes the bulk of the load from the drum not the pump housing the rest of the load is on the intermediate shaft and the inside of the pump housing

I just wish I had the know-how to rebuild my transmission.

Rebuilding one of these transmissions is about as hard as rebuild an engine. As long as you don't take apart the valvebody, everything else is pretty straight forward, it'll take you about 2x as long as rebuilding the engine if its your first time. You'll just want to move slowly, if it isn't coming apart, step back and take an hour off then come back. Sometimes you just need to take a break to get something out. Like when I was replacing my engine, for the life of me I couldn't get the engine and trans back in the truck. The starter kept getting cause on the frame engine mount, and the engine mount on the engine kept getting caught on the other side. To make things more difficult, the hoist was pushing against the hood and the load leveler was caught on the windshield cowl. I took an hour to eat and came back with my brother and got it in within about 20 minutes after spending 3 hours on my own.

This guy has some awesome videos completing a full rebuild of a 46RE transmission.

I'm still on the fence about rebuilding my automatic, or converting it to a manual and driving it as my primary until I get a Cummins.

I guess it's just fear of the unknown. I rebuilt my first engine when I was 17 in auto shop while in high school. I guess knowing the teacher was there to help if I got into trouble with something made it easier. I have done several more since then.
If I could watch someone rebuild an auto trans it probably wouldn't be so intimidating.

Like dudeman suggested ..transmission bench on youtube hands down has the most in-depth video there is..granted it doesn't cover measuring for selectable spacers on the intermediate shaft or the over drive apply piston...but bolt by bolt piece by piece ..its really good
