Hi guys, I have a quick question. I have a 2014 1500 and am hopeful someone here could set me straight. I'm trying to find out if my truck has a LSD or not. I've been to two different dealers and one said I do and the other said I don't. The code on the rear axle says P68214856AA 3.21. The build sheet says 3.21 Rear Axle Ratio. I'm wanting to change the fluids but am not sure if I need to put slip additive in along with the gear oil (which do you recommend?). Thanks in advance for any insight you offer!

I passed up buying some nicely equipped vehicles recently just because they didn't have LSD. I can't see a reason not to get it, but with that said, it's not like it's a huge deal without it.

What were the price differences between those trucks with and without LSD? Definitely something I am going to look for on my next truck.

It won't hurt anything if you put the additive in.

I use fords versions of it cuz it is 2x as much for 1/2 the price in my cherokee rear axles. They have lockers, not LSD.

The additive cuts down on the noise.

With today's braking & traction control systems, generally you don't.

With 4 wheel auto, and the Brae traction control, it is easy to do with out LSD.

The need for LSD is not as significant as is was before traction control, but it does work smoother, quicker, and without as much power drag. So there are situations where it performs much better, but you can get by without it.

Actually its called "Anti–Spin Differential Rear Axle", and yes its $435.

Looks like mine has it, and didn't even realize. Knew i had the 3.92 axle.

LSD's are a very specific niche option and as has already been said.. the brake LSD, simply applying brake to the tire that's spinning, works wonderfully in the real world. In Grandpa's day, he'd just tap the brake to accomplish the same thing..
If you want to get serious, put in an Eaton Tru Track and call it a day. Best LSD made, it's a Torsen style Diff, all gears, no clutch packs. I ran one in my Jeep and they are absolutely bulletproof and for $700 ish you can't go wrong.
Nothing wrong with building in a little bit of invisible insurance.

Amen. I run 4.56 front and rear gears and when I regeared from 3.55 I put in the Eaton TT LSD. Completely different truck now. Beastmode.

You're not putting a Detriot Tru Trac in a ZF diff for 700'ish,it's closer to 1500'ish just for parts. You need to swap your ring/pinion to the earlier AAM 9.25" ring/pinion and buy one extra drivers side axle, plus a master install kit, then you have to add labour on top of that. They are good though, after blowing up the OEM limited slip in mine a couple times, and the dealer telling me they might have a tough time pushing a 3rd one through,i bit the bullet and put a Tru Trac in my 2014's ZF diff.

I have LSD on my 2015 2500 6.4. The dragons flying around on the hood was a distraction but otherwise a good option.
