I am hoping to go to a salvage yard soon with some of my tax money and try to find 4th gen seats for my ram. I was thinking while i was there i could look for a factory LSD unit and pick it up for relatively cheap. Does anybody know how to tell if a truck has one, without popping the cover off the diff?

Should be a tag on the rear housing.

it should have the gear ration and should say "DSAP" or "DSA" or even "Limited Slip"

Not sure if 3rd Gens do it but on older LSD if you spin one wheel by hand the other would spin the same way.
Open diff spins opposite.

You may find the tag like sbarron said , lately they been putting a Barcode sticker on them , this may or may not be legible anymore . My 2014 is still very legible though . I have a limited slip 3.55 , if I remember correctly mine had a bunch of #s on it with 355 within the # that signified the 3.55gear ratio ; however, I think mine said Anti-spin on it in lui of limited slip ...

Also not sure but I think if you rotate the hub on one side the other side will turn in the same direction if it is a LSD ? I've heard this but I haven't tried it on mine .
If you post this in the 4th Gen "Lifted" category I'm sure someone there will know , lots of knowledge hanging around over there .
Hope this helps !

You should be able to read the info on the axel for what you need. Mine still says 3.55 open ;)

Just an FYI. You can't just take the LSD and put it into your axle without going through the exact same steps as regearing process. Ring gears and pinion gears are setup specific to each axle for a specific Ride and coast side of the ring gears. You would be better off buying the entire axle and swapping axles, or, use this opportunity to change gear ratios by buying new gears...

Right. But i would much rather pay $50-100 now and just have it sit around until i can do my gears rather than $400+ for a new unit. Just buying the whole axle may be a better option though, as long as it will fit in my lowered locator brackets which i don't see being an issue.

Anybody know if any trucks come with 4.10s from factory?

I don't know much about the LSD they used in our rams, are they gear driven or clutch driven?

If clutch, I would be sure to get a rebuild kit before installing it in the future.

I have an 04 2500 with LSD and when in park my wheels spin opposite of each other, yet ill leave two line on the ground every time. As far as ive heard, mine seems to be the only one that does it because everyone else says theirs turns the same direction. Kinda weird

Just because both tires spin doesn't mean you have a lsd. Park one tire in mud and see what happens

x2. It may have an LSD, with the clutches warn out. A properly functioning LSD will spin wheels in the same direction when off the ground.

Could you hold the other wheel to keep it from spinning ? Would the Xsmn have to be in nutral?

An open diff, would allow one wheel to spin freely even if one tire is touching the ground and/or the transfer case is in 4x4 and/or park. A limited slip should make it not spin, as it will "lock" the to axles together (it may slip under a lot of force, but should be much higher than human strength). A locker will not slip at all. A selectable locker that acts open when unengaged will act like an open diff, if it is selectable when unlocked it is a LSD, it will act like a LSD.

Me too .

Also when I stomp on it from a stop on gravel , I'll leave TWO marks from start to finish ( with traction control off) . My build sheet say I have the 3.55 Anti-spin ?
With the traction control on it'll bog the RPMs to a crawl in snow or gravel .

I like it , just wondering if it's correct for the Anti-spin ...
