Hey all, New member to this forum here. running a 2003 ram hemi quad cab. about 210,000 miles 338,000 kms. And love the truck

Recently talked to a guy with 750,000 kms on his ford sport trak(yuck) but says he puts a quart of the lucas every oil change.

Just wondering if anyone runs it? I use conventional oil, usually whatever is on sale, typically castrol. And change it anywhere from 7000-12000 kms. I bought a quart of the Lucas but then decided it looked too thick and most likely is a waste of money snake oil product and didn't put it in.

Just looking for any thoughts or if anyone uses it in there non msd hemi?

Thanks

Im using it right now in mine, but theres two kind the regular and the pure synthetic, im using the pure synthetic. My hemi is MDS of course no issues and has actually quieted the tick on startup, i don't know whats in it some say its just thick oil but i used it on a 99 ford v6 years ago quieted that lifter too. I think theres actual magic in it. Works for me. However due to the main consensus on here im moving on to Redline 5w30 this weekend. Anyway It will be fine for your non- MDS engine. Are you trying to quiet something or just going for longevity.

I have a friend that lives and swears by the stuff. I used it one time on my daughters worn out 04 Monte Carlo 3.8L with 232000 miles (~373000 km) but I couldn't get an accurate measure if it did anything with a bad oil leak that sprang up. She ended up adding ~6+ quarts before she and I had the time to locate the leak (sending unit was leaking pretty bad). My two cents, if you have an old, worn out engine and want to squeeze some more life out of it before you junk it, go for it.

I'm mostly going for longevity, truck runs mint just had to get rear diff fixed.. pinion bearing went out. Body is good, hoping to run it for a while yet.

If you want to see some thick stuff when STP had their stuff in a can.Heck when it was cold we had to set the can close to a heater to get it thinned out to pour. There was a old guy he would buy a new car and every time he came to get his oil changed we would pull the oil plug and that junk would take for ever drain. But there are people that swear on the stuff it will slow a leak from a seal or gasket .I have always wondered what the oil galleys look like probably have to pour a gallon of seafoam to clean it out.

Take a look at the synthetic oil thread on this forum. 1000's of posts on this subject. Many by very knowledgeable engineers and chemist. Others that have shared their own practical experience. I have read much of what is in archives on this. When I was 20, my high mile vehicles needed STP to help the compression and keep the rods from knocking. No nothing about the Lucas product. Before I used an additive I would consider using a Teir 1 oil like Amsoil AMO 10-40. Formulated for high mile engines. If cost is important at the moment, look at Penzoil, Quaker State or Castrol. They all make a formula for high miles. back in the day we did not have the sophisticated oil blends that we have today. My 03 5.7 QC has 230k on it. I have never used a oil additive. Today it runs on RL 5-40.

Welcome farmer ! Unless your having an issue, I wouldn't be looking at additives. I might consider pyb as it has high moly count for a bit better film strength and lube properties.
