Hi everyone. I'm new to the world for Ram ownership and to the forum. I thought I'd post my experience with my Magnaflow 14" and Borla Pro XS mufflers. I have a brand new 2018 Ram 1500 Big Horn CC....love the truck. Me, like many others here, wanted to hear a little bit more of the Hemi so I decided to put a Magnaflow 14" muffler on (after listening to tons of video clips) as well as a pair of Moe's 5" tips. At first, I really liked the increase in sound, but after about 1000 miles, the cabin drone started to get to be too much for me. Between 1600-1900 rpm's the cabin drone was crazy loud and too distracting for an everyday driver. At other rpm's the exhaust was barely noticeable, but it seemed like I was always in the trouble rpm band during most of my commute. I lived with it for a few weeks and decided (after a lot of researching) to swap out the Magnadrone for a Borla Pro XS.

I had the Borla put on this morning. When the mechanic started up my truck with the new Borla, it pretty much sounded identical to the Magnaflow 14" (both tone and volume)....I was a little worried that I just wasted my money since the Borla didn't sound any quieter at startup. BUT, once I started driving, I noticed where I was getting drone before, I was no longer getting it with the Borla. It's like I can still hear the nice deep exhaust note, but the annoying drone is gone. It's still early, but I really can't tell that the Borla is much quieter than the 14" Magnaflow (maybe just a tad), it just doesn't drone which is exactly what I was after.

So those of you who are debating what muffler to purchase, I highly recommend the Borla Pro XS over the Magnaflow (at least the 14"). It has a nice deep tone that is almost as loud (if not the same) as the 14" Magnaflow but doesn't drone. I hope it remains the same after some miles as I'm really happy with it as is.

Yep I love he Borla Xs pro. That’s what I run on my Ram and have used them before on other applications and have never been disappointed. Now add a set of 5” tips.

Same here, I went through 2 other mufflers and landed on the Borla. It sounds great and no more drone!

It was definitely drone. Whatever frequency between 1600-1900 rpms would just reverberate throughout the cabin. I could not hear this effect in any other rpm ranges. Unfortunately I spend a lot of time in this range and the constant drone was very irritating.

So far I do not hear this same effect with the Borla muffler....I only hear the sweet sound of the exhaust.

What’s the p/n?

I used PN 40349 which is 3" in and 2.5" out. This is what my muffler shop recommended and he made everything fit.

I got the same exhaust from day one on my 2017 1500. Awesome exhaust and no drone. Borla is a solid choice. Next I'm going to do one of their cat back exhausts.

Has anyone tried or have any feedback on a Flowmaster muffler or catback system on a 5.7 Ram?

I went the same route, I initially installed flowmasters ditched it for the magnaflow and then ditched it my Borla. No complaints going on 1 year.

Quick update. Got a few more miles and minutes in the truck with the new Borla. I would say the drone I had with the 14" magnaflow has been reduced by at least 95%. I can just barely make out a slight drone when the engine changes from 8th to 7th gear going up a hill (in the 1600-1900 rpm range, roughly 45-50mph) with the radio turned down. This is a MAJOR improvement over the magnadrone. It's so slight that I don't notice it with the radio playing at my normal listening volume of 16. All I hear is that deep exhaust tone.

I'm so glad I made the switch to the Pro XS.....awesome muffler. Great tone, decent volume (I still think it's almost as loud as the 14" mag), and minimal to no drone. I can definitely live with this muffler.
