Ok, I’ve been reading countless comments about the MDS. Vibrations, noises it makes etc. etc. I had a 17 w/MDS VVT 5.7 and now a 19 w/the same. My son has my 17 now. I’ve experimented with both trucks by using the manual shift to disengage the MDS and just drove them normally. I honestly cannot feel, hear or tell in anyway when the MDS kicks in or out on either truck under any circumstance. What in the world am I missing?

The opportunity to ***** and moan about MDS on this forum! LOL!

I think it is fair to say that there are good people who are not gear heads or do not have inquisitive mechanical minds who are just fine with the MDS function. Then there are many others like myself that are grateful to the FCA engineers that they provided a way to disable. PIA for sure but it allows the engine to run and perform as designed.
Just the thought of 4 cylinders dragging the other 4 cylinders thru the spark, fuel, combustion, exhaust cycle reminds me of the socialist movement to make half of us responsible for dragging the other half of the population thru life.

What i would like to know is why there are those who hate on us non-MDS ers if you will. Why were always discussing it , talking about it, not using it. Because we can. Thats what the forum is for, talk, vent complain. Not to be swayed into using it. I don't want to. Just like "they say use it doesn't hurt anything". Maybe it don't, maybe some feel it, some don't. I do, like Fitz said, Thank goodness i can turn it off.

Like i've always said, you can put 3-20 of the closest of your friends and family on an island that here you love and could all live in perfect harmony with forever, but on that island, no matter the number, before its all over with say after a couple of years, they will be separations, bickering, jealousy, and wars. You could do this experiment a million times, never work, never a happy ending. Just primal human nature.

Course this applies to about anything in any forum, i realize that. Trans oil, engine oil, mpg, oil filters , etc. Lol

Can't we all just get along?

^^^^On point for this forum. Best on the web because it attracts the best out there. (Look at how many real techs we have as members) While I, OCD and others have one POV on this BS MDS socialist feature. I would defend with my life the right of Keith and others to ask/express WTF is the issue or big deal. Fitz

Amen brother!!!
I think it sucks. And, if I wanted to "save gas and be a tree hugger", I would have bought a smaller truck. **** THAT NOISE! I wanted the full size truck with a V8. Get rid of the MDS and the truck would be amazing. It'a already amazing, but having to turn it off EVERY SINGLE TIME kinda sucks.
My '05 Ram Daytona rcsb in GoMango Orange was such a beast! No MDS bullcrap on that truck at all.

I just carried a load of firewood which I cut down in my new Ram with MDS.....the quiet ride home was enjoyable after hearing that chainsaw all day. Go figure! :superhack:

Glad I don't live in Calif. any longer....moved away 17 years ago. I like my gas chain saws...a Sthil and an Echo.....both cut like butter.....dropped two trees yesterday. Actually used the RAM to pull one tree away from the shop.....she rode smooth and quiet on the way home with MDS. Love the mileage.

California ain't all that bad.....

Two men were sitting side by side on an airliner flying from Denver to Los Angeles. The first man appeared nervous and finally explained that he was being transferred to LA. "I hate Los Angeles," he said. "Everything you hear about LA is bad -- smog, traffic, and worst of all, the crime. Gangs everywhere, people getting shot and robbed, things stolen, car jackings, and everyone hates everyone else." "Oh, it's not that bad," said the second man. "I live in LA myself. Most of that stuff you read is media hype. It's just not true. You'll find LA is just like any other city, anywhere in America." "Really?" responded the first. "Boy, that makes me feel a lot better. You say you live in LA -- what do you do for a living?" "I'm a tail gunner on a Bud Light delivery truck."

I just moved to a place that doesn't appear to have any kind of emissions regulation for cars. Generally when I hear an unnecessarily loud car or truck, or some trashy diesel blowing coal I assume it's somebody too poor to afford to fix their old junk or they're insecure, trying to compensate for something they don't like about themselves. Either way I kinda feel sorry for them.

I don't know if that's the kind of message people want to send but it's definitely the message I'm getting.

If I drove my truck 150k miles without failure I would not start questioning the methods that got me there.
