hey guys,

Love my new 2029 Ram 1500...The only issue/annoyance is the MDS kicking in. Can feel and hear the slight drone/vibration.
I read that you can call a dealer to deactivate, but I’ve called 2 separate dealers and both said no they can’t.

Ive tried the gear limiter and it works but sucks to keep setting up the gear limit or every time I shift out of Drive.

Is there a better option or cheap tuner that strictly does this? Or do the Ram sealers actually have the ability?

At this time there is no aftermarket tuning available for the 2019 Ram which is how the majority of owners turn off MDS.

FCA techs were locked out of several modules, or specific sections of those modules, on the vehicles when FCA updated the diagnostic tool software. For instance, the techs used to be able to get into the Body Control Module (BCM) and change the tire pressure monitoring system minimum PSI settings. Now they can't. I am not sure but something similar may have happened with certain sections of the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), affecting MDS operation.

One option may be the tool called AlfaOBD. I'm not sure if it touches MDS operations but it might be worth a look. There's a large thread here on that tool that might interest you and some of the members here have quite a bit of experience with it.

Another option is to put the truck in Tow/Haul mode while driving around town, then out of Tow/Haul when you hit higher speeds on the expressway or freeway. I use Tow/Haul all the time. I don't have MDS but I hate lugging my CTD around town.

Lastly, you can shift out of full auto mode as you are doing now.

I've heard a lot of complaints about the mds..noise slash drone or vibration. My truck does it for about ,a second or two.And it's gone ,not bothersome at all?My 14 Ram,17,Ram did the exact same thing .And I put a Magnaflow performance muffler on and to me it's exceptable.I don't know.

As a temporary fix, downshifting will also turn it off - using the steering wheel controls to bounce it down into 8th. It's annoying that you have to do it every time you put it in drive.

Tow/haul does not turn MDS off, need to use ERS on the steering wheel.

Unfortunately there is no such thing as a cheap tuner on the 2015+ models and it might be a bit before any tuning is available on the 2019's.

So how bad's the drone? Unable to drown it out w/the Radio or just there?

Why wouldnt there be any aftermarket tuning for the 2019 Ram yet? Isnt this the same 5.7 platform for the past 10years? Do you antisipate there being a tuning system in the future? The only gripe I have with the truck is the horrific MDS. My silverado, I plugged in the Diablo tuner and turned off cylinder deactivation in about 45seconds and drove the truck 3+ years without a hitch

You can noticeable hear and feel the drone. Today was below zero and its very noticiable while the truck is still warming up as well. Its more of an annoyance then a problem..It serves a purpose but proves to be an annoyance.

If I use the gear shifting limiter on the steering wheel, the truck drives perfect. It is a slight pain, but it does only take about 1second...Our best option

I recall paying $500 ish for a Diablo tuner for my 2016 Silverado..It had tons of tuning options, but I hate messing with engine calibrations,etc.. that I dont understand. If someone comes out with a tuner that gives the option to deactivate the MDS. I think paying the $500 ish may be worth YEARS of better driving experiences..But im not sure what Mopar tuning devices often offer or how frequent they come out.

My B7 drones like crazy w/my FI exhaust, gotten use to it but prefer to get a new one once I get a chance. As long as it's not too loud and terrible, I could live with it... or I can wait for someone to make something to disable the MDS

Previous tuning devices have they offered an MDS turn off/on? It would be something to look forward too knowing its in the works with one of the tuning companies, just that it hasnt come out yet.

I'm completely brand new to Ram, so I thought I read it's been done before. If it hasn't, it should be

There is a delay due to the new software and PCM encryption FCA puts on all their vehicles these days. It gets revised from year to year apparently. It takes the aftermarket, such as DiabloSport, some time to make the changes needed so their programmers can access the PCM and get the programmers to work.

I do anticipate there will be tuning.

Actually...Looking at Diablo's Tuning website, they do have this tuner...It does say it turns MDS on/off...I thought a tuner didnt exist?

https://www.diablosport.com/shop/pulsar-2019-ram-1500-5-7l-hemi.html

That's not actually a programmer. It has less user configurable options than a true programmer and it won't support custom tunes.

They haven't introduced a true programmer for the 2019 trucks yet.

But this might be just what you are looking for. You can turn MDS off and on with it plus select up to 8 settings for different performance levels, towing, etc...

Wonder when MMX will have a MDS delete kit for the '19s

Better yet, let's see if there's anything '19s can use from there

I can’t even tell if my MDS is working or not on mine. Then again mine only has 600ish miles on it. If it’s working I haven’t even noticed it. Y’all must drive around without your radio on also I’m guessing to notice the drone.
