On the serious side for a moment, I cannot for even one second imagine just how bad that driver feels.
Shxx happens to good people every day but oh my, this kind of shxx would be absolutely horrible.
Maybe foot slipped off the brake pedal and onto the gas.

How often dont you hear about a young kid wrecking a car at a shop because he couldn't drive stick and didn't tell no one?

Well, there is that alright.
Brings back memories about a car jockey back in the late 1970s almost pinning me against a workbench in a GM dealership.

Ha! Ha! Just brought back another memory ......
Back in the day, we had a Service Manager who always wanted a "favour." This time the favour was fixing his friend's little minibike. So, loAng story short, I got it running, cleaned it up and gave the seat a good coating of Armourall. The next Monday morning I heard all about it. Apparently the good friend almost lost the :jewels" when the bike shot out from under him when he cranked on the throttle. Apparently that license plate bracket can inflict injury. The best part, he never asked me for a favour again.

That Jeep no doubt had a standard transmission. My guess is the drivers foot slipped off the clutch. I would doubt they would be letting anyone move those things around who could not drive a stick. There are lots of them at an auction like that. Fact is, it's likely that all of the cars in those pictures were standards.

Its possible someone armoralled up the clutch pedal when "detailing" it and the guys foot slipped

Highly doubt the detailer used armor all. Cars at that level of an auction are detailed by pros, not some 16yo slobbing armor all on every plastic item on the car.
