2017 Holden Commodore SS-V Redline, (née Chev SS Sport Sedan)

Owned the SS from new, sold right at four years and 78K miles. Owned the Cossie just under two years - it was a bucket list car, as my first car was a '71 Vega notchback into which I swapped a Buick 3.8l V6.

That is a Cosworth Vega which is a totally different animal from the run-of-the-mill GM made back in the day.

@MADDOG is correct. As noted, my first car was a '71 and it gave me a Master Class in auto repair. Only had minor rust issues (Southern car), at the base of the windshield (other GM cars rusted there, too). The 2300 engine wasn't horrible, other than NVH due to the top-heavy design (cast-iron head on aluminum block) - mine returned up to 30 MPG and would chirp second gear all day long as it was fairly torquey (I had the 4-speed manual). Swapping in the Buick V6 transformed the car, though.

The CV used the same block as the stock Vega, but had a DOHC aluminum head designed by Cosworth in England (F1, F2 race engine designers). Prototype street engines were making 170 gross HP (the racing variant made nearly 300HP, but had durability issues), but by the time it was detuned to meet emissions, it only made 110 HP net. Vega would actually outperform (outhandle) an early-70s Corvette on the skidpad, and the '74 Cossie prototype was tested faster than any other GM offering at the time.

I occasionally write for Curbside Classic, and if you have 15 minutes to spare, here's a link to my detailed history of the Cosworth Vega.

My buddy had a1973 Vega GT and a 1975? Cosworth. The Cosworth was never on the road when he owned it. It was in good shape but needed some TLC. The GT was bright metallic green with white stripes but had a little rust here and there. Loved that GT and have wanted one since I saw his.

EDIT: just tried to find a photo online of one. Pretty sure his was a '73. It had the split bumper and 4 speed
