I have a 2007 Dodge 2500 4x4 crew cab, with the 6.7. I am new to diesels, but have read posts where those running a programmer are getting 23-25 mpg on the highway. I just made a 600 mile round trip this weekend with my new Bullydog GT tuner and I have to say I was disappointed with my mileage. I averaged about 19 for the trip. Not bad for a 3/4 ton 4x4, but what are these other guys doing to get mid-20's? My truck has the stock size P265's too, so I'm not trying to turn huge tires. I'm obviously missing something. Any ideas???

Have you upgraded the exhaust to a turbo back straight pipe? And upgraded the intake, like a k&n or something similar? I know doing those with a programmer helped my buddy Chis achieve 26mpg in his 05 ctd 4x4.

I haven't done any mods to the truck other than add the programmer. The intake and exhaust are stock.

Usually the intake and exhaust are extremely restrictive. And to see full potential on MPGs and power you need to let it breath.

Trans work will also make the trans more effective and produce some MPGs

Imagine breathing with a towel over your mouth, that's what it's like for your truck. Just need to open her up with a few simple bolt-ons, and you'll see the difference!

Thanks for all of the info. I think I'm going to look at a cold air intake first, then move to the exhaust. Intake seems like the easiest of the two. My question is, which kit is the best for the money.......I don't have to have the most expensive one out there. I hear K&N's name more than anyone else, but I also hear that Banks produces the best product. I also notice that Banks offers the "scoop" that hangs down under the front bumper (not sure if that really adds anything or not).

Any thoughts on brand?

I have the Banks with the snout and it's a good product. But consider the S&B CIA with the snout. I bought mine when they first came out on the market and since then my friends have been into S&B because they do the same and were cheaper. (by the way, don't over oil the filter when servicing them),

Consider a pre-filter - I'm trying to get a pre-fiter for mine and having problems since Banks filters are only from Banks, so I might have to make my pre-filter.

As for the exhaust, you have 3 choices to change to that I know of.
1. stay the same on you pipes and exchange the muffler with a non-restrictive resonator. (cheap)
2. go to a 1" larger system from at least the CAT back.
3. straight pipe back which can be loud and drown a lot. (cheap)

Also, if your not in a state with constant licenses inspections, chuck the CAT.

But remember,
a.) diesels don't get extremely high MPG's. Your in a worker truck, not a toy.
b.) are these people using the overhead lie-o-meters for their MPG's (known to be off) or hand calculate each tank with a full refill each time ?

How you drive 'and' maintain the vehicle means the most in MPG.

being that your truck is a 2007, does your truck have the dpf filter? That is a big loss of mpg's right there with the way they do the regen cycle.

Yes it does have the DPF and I can tell when it goes into "Regen" because the mileage on the Bullydog plummets. It must dump tons of fuel in the engine to do the burn-off.

i'm pretty sure you can get dpf delete kit, but that will effect your warranty and if you have strict inspections where you live might cause you to fail
