2007 5.7 1500 throwing a code for cyl 8 misfire. About a week ago the truck stalled out of no where and threw a code for ckp sensor malfunction. Replaced the sensor and same thing. I took the connector off and saw that the red wire was shorting out against the block. So i replaced the connector and whip about a foot or so. Now it doesn't stall but it is misfiring frequently. Sometimes the check engine light just blinks and doesn't throw a code and sometimes it throws the cyl 8 misfire code. Either way it won't engage the 4 cylinders mode. I pulled out the spark plugs in cyl 8 and they seemed fine, gap was good. Any ideas? Could I have gotten a bad cpk sensor? Or could it plugs/coils?

Whenever I make a change in anything (not just trucks, but anything) and something else weird starts happening the first thing I do is go back to the change I made and double, triple and quadruple check that change to try to make sure I didn't cause the problem. many times I've found some tiny error I made that caused the new problem.
