It is like they want you to wreck your engine ---No Dipstick, I have a 2025, and it is crazy what do you do if the battery is out. The cost of these trucks, and some idiot comes up with the idea of no dipstick, he should have been fired on the spot.

Heck no, he saved money for the bean counters. No dip stick, no oil tube, no rubber O-ring, maybe a support bracket. Think of all the Money he saved Stellantis per unit (sic).

Its getting pretty common. Here the result of a quick AI search. I also saw that GM is starting to do it.

Common Vehicles Without Dipsticks:
  • BMW: Most models (e.g., N20 engine)
  • Mercedes-Benz: Many models, especially post-2018
  • Audi: Many newer models
  • Porsche
    :

    • Stellantis: 2025 Ram 1500, vehicles with Hurricane engines (inline 6)
    • Other: Mini, Alfa Romeo, some Ford, and Mazda models

As far as wrecking your engine - it will tell you when the oil gets low. There are multiple posts here if you do some searching about people running way low on oil and wrecking engines, because they never open the hood.

I am not a fan of removing it, but I can see the advantage in today's world, where so many people don't have a clue...

I had a 2021 2500 with the diesel engine and it had a shorty dipstick, completely useless. Tried to get dealer to replace, no go. Wanted $100 for long dipstick. transmission blew under warranty.
Now have a 2026 2500, 6.4 hemi, no dipstick at all!

Agreed, as I said in an earlier post, most people never even pull the dipstick on their vehicles. So oil level sensors are a good thing. But use it to replace the oil pressure idiot light not the dipstick. I think the best solution would be to keep the dipstick and also have an oil level sensor.

Sir U need to quit stating common sense solutions to where a problem that did not exist till they changed something that should have been left alone.

I think maybe there was a problem. I think they got sick of replacing engines under warranty, because people never check the level, and let the oil get too low. Smarter for them to light up the instrument cluster, and maybe shut down the engine before it self destructs.

I have to think that the sensor and software needed for the auto detect feature probably cost more than the couple of dollars that a dipstick and tube costs.

I think there is some self preservation motive here, they didn't do it to be nice.

Even if that's the case, which I strongly doubt...there's no reason you can't have both.

Too many newly graduated engineers entering the automotive industry with a ton of bean counters asleep at the wheel.

If the battery is out simply drain the oil completely and measure it
Who are you replying to with this post? It's definitely a solution which would tell you how much oil was in the engine. But you don't want to put that oil back into the engine. At least I wouldn't. You're not driving a truck with a dead battery anyway. If you trust the oil level sensor, it will be working again once you resolve the battery issue.
