If the “Critically Low or Critically High” Oil Level
Warning Light is illuminated, the following steps
should be taken:
● Critically Low: add two quarts of manufacturer
specified oil as soon as possible ð page 351.
Continuing to operate the vehicle with “Critically
Low” oil level may damage the engine.
● Critically High: contact an authorized dealer for
service. Continuing to operate the vehicle with
“Critically High” oil level may damage the engine.
Do not use any oils that are not manufacturer
specified and API approved.
Used engine oil and oil filters contain substances
which are harmful to the environment. When oil and
filters are changed contact an authorized dealer and
dispose of in a safe and responsible manner

I’ve been dealing with no dipstick since owning a 2010 Audi A4 Avant. I’ve owned several other Audi’s since then. It’s not a big deal with them because there is still a dipstick tube. So you can buy an aftermarket dipstick for most of them. Most German cars have no engine oil dipstick. But the Hurricane engines don’t even have a dipstick tube so that’s not an option.

Shouldn’t be a problem for most people for a few years yet. And lets be real here, most people don’t even pull the dipstick on their vehicles. But for those of us who do their own maintenance it can be a dealbreaker.

One of the dumbest design ideas ever, IMO.

If the computer is smart enough to tell you you're critically low, it should also tell you to add 2 qts. of whatever type oil ASAP.

I learned this after I got mine home. I always go through and check tire pressure, oil level etc, when I get a new vehicle home. I have driven on tires inflated to 55psi, oil level low, no wiper fluid etc. So I get home wash polish and wax a vehicle, check everything twice, some times I go back to the dealer for repair or fix, some times I just fix it.

Anyway I got my Ram home opened the hood looked at least three times before I realized there was no dip stick (besides me). I looked in the OM found out how to check it at that time. No I didn't check it before I left the dealer the night before. Even when I do I still have a basic checklist I do at home just because.

Not sure if I like this idea or not, but for most younger people, that don't know how to open the hood it makes sense.

Some manufacturers havent put any dipstick in their vehicles for quite some time now. They are making it harder for independent shops and the average consumers to do anythi g on tbe vehicles. They are forcing people to taking it to them for the services

Yeah but. Dealt with a lot of dipsticks in my 42 years working. Very happy to have one under the hood. Heck if u got a dipstick on riding mower and motorcycle sure want one in truck.

Not happy with no tranny stick either and the so called fluids for life BS. Maybe showing my age.

A lady was sitting on the side of the road the youngest granddaughter (16 or 17) came across in a panic and crying because a tire is flat and she does not know what to do.
She admitted she did not know if there was a spare and if she did she had no clue what to do.
So granddaughter found a spare and a jack and changed it.
It was surprising it had air in it.
The older cars we give the kids and grandkids, they learn fast and daughter was a farm girl.

I wonder, do you get a spare tire ,wheel in new stuff these days?
BTW , last 2 Rams, I never had to add any oil between oil changes.

When my Wife got her first car, my FIL made sure she knew how to check fluids, and change a tire BEFORE she was allowed to drive on her own.

She actually had a 100 or 125 cc motorcycle that she drove to school, and he made small ramps and such, taught her how to maneuver, etc. So she would be prepared on the road.

You know.......
Only an idiot would design such with an idiot light as "The one and only means" of knowing your engine's oil level and then say it's fine - It's called an idiot light for a reason you know.

I've said it before and will say it again:
No dipstick, no deal.

They can keep 'em until a non-idiot somewhere in corporate ends this idiotic nonsense.

Regardless if most people dont even check their vehicles oil, its completely asinine to do away with something so important as an engine oil dipstick. I cant think of one single reason that that would make a lick of sense. Like not a single one. So dumb.

And the germans sticking a dipstick tube on the motor but not selling the vehicle with an actual dipstick in it might be even dumber lol. What the hell is this world coming to !

I don’t disagree with you. Eliminating the dipstick has never made sense to me. Same with when everyone removed the transmission dipstick.

The dipstick tube on European engines is how they extract the oil when the dealerships do oil changes. Saves them time. I was initially skeptical they can get all the oil out using that method but I’ve done it myself and get the same amount of oil out as using the drain plug. And since the oil filter is accessible from above it’s a lot easier to do oil changes.
