Installed mine on my 2013 Sport yesterday, very easy install. The only issue I had was that I had to drill out the mounting brackets to 11/16" where they snap onto the housing. The factory size is 1/2". Easily done with a step bit.

Took them apart, installed Lamin-x, moved the light down in the housing. Got them aimed to where they are not facing straight into everyone's eyes. The Yellow film tames them pretty good, you can see exactly where they are pointed. The do light up the lines road quite well compared to the stock white. They will do just fine for me.

My method of mounting the resistors. Piece of 3X2 aluminum angle. Some 10-24 X 1/2" stainless machine screws lock washers and nuts to mount the resistors and I took of 2 bumper bolts and bolted it to the back of the bumper on the factory posts.IMG_20180321_144620.jpgIMG_20180321_143856.jpg

I purchased these based on your reviews. Thanks for putting everything together for us.
The only issues I had were drilling out the mounting tabs to fit the new housing and getting a snug enough fit to keep them from wiggling and getting them aimed properly. I used a step drill bit to get the tabs to fit and then used a longer screw to fit the threads of the light, through the mounting tab and then with a fender washer. This keeps tension on the whole thing and keeps it from moving.
The driver side is aimed properly just under the low beam but the passenger side is just a tad higher(I've run out of adjustment). I don't think it's blinding oncoming traffic, but I'd sure like to get it even across to match the driver's side. I do have a 2" level on the front but I'd expect the level to be consistent from side to side. I may insert a spacer between one of the lower mounting screws to try to gain some more adjustment - but I think that would look funny. We'll see.

As for the light output, it's significantly better than stock (which I compared to a candle being held out in front of you). I used the lamin-x since I was going for more functionality and not necessarily output.

Yeah some guys with certain years and certain bumper styles have had your same issue. There may be a fix for your adjustment around somewhere. I was lucky mine didn’t require any drilling

mpress2570,

Nice report. I installed mine over the weekend. Just curious where you ended up mounting the ballasts?

Thanks,
Chris

I mounted them on the vertical square metal braces behind the bumper.

If you loosen the 2 screws on either side of the lamp you can tilt it up or down a bit and then re tighten. Then adjust them again to point them properly.

I’ve been waiting for these things to release since the summer. Finally got them today and popped them in. Installation was a breeze. Haven’t found a good way to mount the resistors so I used zip ties. Hopefully they don’t melt. I left the lights on for 20 minutes and they were still holding strong. If anyone has a better way to mount them please let me know. I do have a little tip myself though.

(UPDATE: I thought of the idea of buying four key rings. Attaching them to each mounting hole of the resistors. Then use zip ties around the key rings instead of the resistor mounting holes.)

On the new housings when you install the spring place a washer between the spring and the plastic. They made the opening in the plastic too large so the spring kind of digs into the plastic pretty awkwardly and I can see it being a problem with wear down the road (Pictures below).

Pretty satisfied with the light output. If you’re looking for brightness do NOT use the laminX. If you’re looking to have the fog lights work like fog lights DEFINITELY USE the laminX. (Reason why below)

The look on the truck is amazing. Gives the truck a cleaner look by getting rid of the chrome reflector housings. Goes perfect with my color scheme. I definitely do not have any complaints about these lights. The beam pattern is gorgeous and way nicer than my GTR Gen 3 bulbs I used previously. I would definitely recommend these fog lights.

Credit to Jeremy at the retro shop for sitting on the phone with me explaining the lights and install in detail before I placed my order.

LaminX applied.

Here’s the new housings with the spring installed without a washer. Notice how sloppy the spring sits in the housings. cd8ae3a8ca2517e1d5759eb0bffe2510.jpg

Now here’s with a washer installed. ce49ddc411477e0c36bd151315cce6a0.jpg

Here’s how the new assembly should look. fdc931a71bcf4ced87dd79f6bc53b409.jpga79c9b0690b247c2e2a603f2ed0f7b84.jpg

Xb vs gtr gen 3 beam pattern. The new housing is just sitting on the ground. That’s why it looks funky. 3f373e28200e802b35da6ad595bd1cf1.jpg

Here’s an example of why the laminX is so useful. In this picture it is snowing extremely hard. With the laminX there is no bright white light reflecting off the snow back at your eyes. e3c730fb66216daeaa16359182279d63.jpg310bc9c7d3c55ab1aa2429dcc4544f07.jpgd11d6c41d5747dee7ad683d142de618f.jpg92e076e8b46f9f1e187c592b475d8f1e.jpgb6ce440fd40fbbebbfd50f42539ba6d2.jpg

Thanks. That's where I mounted to as well. I read that they should be mounted to metal. Not sure why but felt I should play it safe. I just upgraded to the HID low beams and the videos I saw for that said to use double sided tape for mounting the ballasts. So I did, and that also seems to work well.

They need to be mounted to metal because they get very hot and will melt plastic.

This is one of my favorite mods on my truck. I installed them without using the resistors and have had zero issues. I do not get any bulb errors and I have no flickering issues. Anyone else try this?

has anyone had any issues with aiming these? i got my set in and drilled the holes, mounted them and waited for night... the lights shined up to my neighbors 2nd story windows, i tried the adjuster wingnut but that does nothing either... talked with a Jeremy at retroshop he gave me troubleshooting but we are both stumped

Loosen the screws on the sides of the lights and adjust them closer. Then tighten the screws back up and use the adjuster to fine tune them.
