I have a 2003 dodge ram 2500 2wd quad cab with the 5.7 hemi. My question is... I found a set of motors one is a 04 the other is a 05. One came out of a truck the other came out of a box truck. One motor looks to be the same as what I have but will need a new crank because of a faulty rod bearing.. The second has a different timing cover and harmonic balance bit seems to be the same block as far as I can tell. Was told it had a miss fire but ran and drove. (This is the one I wanted to freshen up) My main concern is.. Are these motors the same internally? Can the parts,pistons,and heads interchange? I can change everything around if need be but I want to be sure before I rebuild a motor it will work in my truck. I want to be sure they are worthy of putting money in.. If In fact I can use them I have no problem doing a rebuild.. I have never built a motor before so any help would be greatly appreciated.. Thanks ahead of time.

04 and 05 1500's or 2500's? This will matter for EGR, otherwise internally yes. Can you post a pic of the one that you said the timing cover looks off on?

Block and rotating assembly is all the same 03-08 on the 5.7 hemis. There are some differences with valve covers and coil packs from 03-05 and the 06-08 but they are interchangeable. EGR was added in 04, and MDS was functionally added in 06 to the 1500 trucks.

Physically yes, but you know personally that the connectors aren't the same and there aren't adapters to go from 06+ coils to 03-05 coils lol
EGR was added to 1500's, the 2500/3500's didn't get it (no idea why)
