I've got a BT catch can on my 2012 and it's worked well for the past four years. My only complaint, and it doesn't lie with the can itself, is that I have to get a step ladder to empty the thing. I not have a Mishimoto version for my 2013 and was thinking about trying to find a location down low to mount it so I could just reach under the truck when it needs to be emptied.

I'm no mechanic and figured I'd better check with the experts here before doing so. As I understand how things work there wouldn't be any sort of a siphon effect and as long as I kept it empty I wouldn't think there would be an issue. Does anyone see a problem with mounting one well below the normal mounting height? I wouldn't have it hanging low enough to hit road debris but it is much easier to get under the truck than it is to get over the fender and down into the engine compartment with the leveling kit and body lift I have on the trucks.

Because your outlet is at the top of the crank case you won't generate any siphoning issues and you can mount the can wherever you want since it's running off your intake manifold vacuum anyways. If it's easier for you to mount it lower then do so.

Some of us including me have the catch can mounted on the outside of the air filter box.
You will need a step ladder for some other tasks as well so i would go with the step ladder.
Adding a drain valve would make draining the catch kan much easier....

What is the advantage to mounting it up high? If all I need to do is empty it, it is easier to do down low.

There is no advantage. It serves one purpose only, to catch oil. Mount it where you want, it will do the same thing.

Just make sure there isn't any low spots in the hoses where condensation can collect and freeze in the colder climates blocking airflow. Anybody ever have that issue?

As longer the hoses are as higher is the resistence for the air to flow thru.
Generally spoken the shorter the hoses are more air will be pushed thru.
If this makes a big difference is to argue.
