Someone needs to figure out how to swap out the 8speed rotary shifter with a center console shifter like in the '13 R/T's.

Well, fail for me. The piece behind the knob was much larger than I thought (should've checked that 1st, I know). I was thinking it would just be a plug plugged in to the knob... not so much. Unfortunately I can't see how to make it work without modifying my actual shift mechanism - tearing off the screw tabs - and I don't have the manhood to tear my truck apart without knowing it would work. The wires going to the shifter (and 4WD) would also need to be extended I think, but not by much. From the factory, this should absolutely be doable, I just don't have the know-how after market.

The other option could still be some sort of plate which covers the large hole in the current console insert.

It looks like from your three photos KahneFan that the wiring harness for the shifter knob is indeed separate from the transfer case selector. Do those pins correspond to the console grip shifter harness you have? If not, has anyone seen the WK2 console grip shifter to compare the harness?

Next up, if the Ram rotary knob and the WK2 shifter are common harnesses, then I would make an extension for that harness and make a pretty bezel to place the shifter from the Jeep into.

I REALLY want this to be a thing. I don't hate the knob but I have been patiently waiting for someone to hack this setup.

I was worried about the rotary knob shifter as well because I drive manual transmission in my protouring cars and my fiancé's John Cooper Works Mini Cooper S coupe and all my cars when I was younger were manual transmission so I naturally drive with my arm on the center console and my hand on the shifter even when driving automatics. But it's no big deal with the rotary knob shifter. I ride with my arm on the console as usual but I just don't have a shifter to rest my hand on. And I don't even notice anymore. And as far as using the shifter....how often do you actually use the shifter. I put it in reverse, put it in drive and then put it in park. So that's 3 times that you are going to use the shifter from the time you leave your house or wherever you're parked to the time you arrive where you're going. I can find a lot of better things to do with my time and effort then going through all the trouble and pain to move the shifter rotary knob that I actually have grown to really like it a lot.

I still reach up for my column shifter that isn't there... Taking a while to adjust to the knob. I opted for the snuggle seat, so no center console... Next up, voice activated gear changes.

What about getting a '13 center console bezel for the console shifter, then dremeling out the PND12 notches to make room for the rotary knob assy.? Then extend the harness and drop it back in to the center console?

Just spitting ideas.. hard to tell if it would work without holding the pieces.

I'm not a huge fan of the dryer knob, but it also (clearly) wasn't a deal breaker.

That's what I was looking to do but, as you can see in Post #22, the shifter assembly was larger than I was expecting. And, I would have to cut off the top mount bracket of the shifter, and I didn't want to "damage" my OEM part - since I would guess that's not a cheap replacement part.
