Just purchased a 2012 Ram 1500 Express 4x4 and am looking to just replace the muffler and leave the stock exhaust in place. Just looking to get a deeper and louder sound. Any recommendations on brand of muffler? Thinking about the Flowmaster Super 40 currently. Or should I just go with a complete exhaust system?

Thanks

Muffler delete!!! lol

I think alot of guys on here ***** about the Flowmasters rusting out, although my 85 chev had one, and I never had a problem.

Most people on here run Magnaflows, and for sound I believe of the 18in variety. If you have a good exhaust shop, or are willing to do the work yourself, I would say just do the muffler, which would save you a little money. But then again, a lot of guys love the kits.

All what you are partial to.

Do you currently have any exhaust work done?

This is a tough choice. I like a particular sound but others may want something quieter or louder. I listened to some different sound clips online and, fortunately, have had experience with quite a few brands.

I don't have MDS so I went with a single in / dual out Magnaflow muffler with new tailpipes to get a dual look at the rear. I have no resonators but that's OK as I don't get any drone.

For you, I'd suggest a muffler replacement only that retains the rest of the stock system. Or, if you want to do something similar for a dual look, try a single in / dual out but you will want resonators at the end of the system to avoid some serious drone issues.

Do you already have factory duals?

+1 on the mufflex. Be cheaper to get a muffler shop to just weld one in. But nothing beats being able to go out and put it on yourself in like 30 minutes and then take it off and put the stock one back on if need be.

I have the dodm80 and it has some drone in the cab on acceleration but get comments on the sound all the time. They offer 3 sizes of magnaflow and 1 muffler delete.

i was always thinking about doing this. I see some people just replace the entire exaust system... i just want to just replace the mufflers.

What do you guys think of magnaflow, flowmaster, or borla? how hard is it to do it yourself? Any sound or youtube clips would be great.

I don't have my Ram yet, but since I'll just be going for sound the Mufflex seems like the way to go IMO. Many here really like it.

I have Magnaflow on my G8 and love the sound so IMO Mufflex is a winner. I don't do cackling exhaust like glass packs.

HemiPower12 - I currently have a 24" Magnaflow that is nice and mellow but flows nicely.
It's being replaced tomorrow with an 18" Magnaflow.
I'll let you know how it sounds.

By all the responses I will have to choose between Mufflex and Magnaflow!

Thanks everyone for the responses!

Any other suggestions for upgrades send them my way, just getting into accessorizing this truck!

Mufflex uses Magnaflow mufflers, so the sound is the same. The Mufflex kit is just bolton whereas a Magnaflow muffler would need to be welded on. If you trust your local exhaust shop, then it is cheaper to just go with the Magnaflow muffler.

Had the Flowmaster Super40 put on my 2012 Sport a few days ago. Great sound. Little to no drone on the highway. I left the rest of the system alone and went with muffler only. I didn't see any major gains in changing the whole system. I love the sound. One thing I like about Flowmaster is the older they get, the better they sound. Some rust and some don't. Out of the dozen or so I have had, only two rusted. Like mentioned above, I think magnaflow is too quiet but that's just my .02. I have had several Super 40's and planned on getting it before I even had the truck. Definitely not disappointed.

If I was to go with the magnaflow would I get the 22 inch if I just wanted to wake it up a little bit over stock? I just want to avoid drone without spending $700.00 on a corsa db. What size y pipe would I go with with the corsa or the magnaflow?
