Ok, I know the past few posts I have made have been about tuners and exhaust.

I got the Hemifever Intune and have been looking at exhausts.

Nothing crazy, just a cat-back, then tonight I saw a thread talking about Mufflex.

Do the Magnaflows or Flowmaster full cat-backs make that much more hp than just adding a Mufflex??

And if you do know, how much more hp would a Mufflex free up??

To me, I see the price of the Mufflex compared to one of the other 2 full cat-backs and there is a heck of a price difference.

Is the Mufflex too good to be true??

Muffler vs catback hp difference is going to be minimal ie a few horsepower which you will
not feel in a 5500lb truck.

You can also buy a muffler of your choice for $60-$170 and have a shop weld it in (magnaflow, cherry bomb, flowmaster, borla, etc). That's whag I did, bought the same muffler as the mufflex 18 for $106 and had a local shop weld it in.

So pretty much the most hp is gained through the change in just the muffler??

You will pick up a small amount of horsepower through a free flowing muffler. Again, you probably won't notice an increase in performance from a muffler swap. If you add an intake, exhaust and exhaust manifolds you will certainly notice a gain in performance as those modifications complement themselves. Add a diablo tuner to the list and you're rocking!

Stock tail pipes are 2.25" manmandrel bend 409SS... the area of both 2.25 tailpipes is more than the single 3" that is the muffler and ypipe so it is not a restriction. Hence why the catback doesn't produce much more hp bc the stock cattack is adequate.

Big restrictions are the stock manifolds and ypipe. Replace those and you will gain the most HP.

Like said above, the muffler swap/catback exhaust will be more for sound than performance. The positive side of the catback exhaust kits is that they also come with 5" tips. If you are happy with the stock exhaust tips, then I would go with the Mufflex kit and save yourself some money.

I would also go with Mufflex over welding in a universal muffler because the Mufflex piping is stainless and mandrel bent. Most shops are going to use aluminized steel and crush bends when adding the extra pipe...not to mention, it will be welded instead of clamped onto the truck.

Thank you! It's nice to see a business be honest, instead of trying to get someone to buy something just to bring them more $$. Because I don't plan on doing any major mods. I have a CAI and a tuner right now. And from the responses, it look like I will just go with the Mufflex, later on, when it warms up, because there is snow on the ground right now! Since muffler/cat-back is more for sound with no real hp gains, plus save some $$$.

Thanks:favorites13:
