minimal options

in my case, i was looking primarily for a tow rig (travel trailer).
i also wanted to keep the $$ down since i retired 2 yrs ago.
after the purchase, the only thing i regret not getting was the back-up camera.
i don't recall now but, it may have been included in a package i didn't want to pay extra for the unwanted crap.
my solution was buying an aftermarket PORTABLE camera setup. though i didn't pay this much for it.........

What about "keyless entry"? Is this considered very handy or a gimmick?

Mine were power windows, locks, seats, mirrors and remote start. I came from an 01 sport without a lot of that aha. NAV/Uconnect and satellite radio are options I want to get put in mine.

The Big Horn features I wanted

Protection Group $150 - HIGH (tow hooks and skid plates, I drive mountain roads)

3.92 rear axle ratio $50 - HIGH

Anti-spin Diff $325 - HIGH (be careful they offer the 3.21 with the anti-spin diff option, make sure it also lists the 3.92 if that's what you want.

Rear window defrost $150 - HIGH

Trailer brake control $230 - HIGH (mostly for resale value but I tow on occasion)

Comfort Group $350 - HIGH includes remote start, security alarm, heated seats and steering wheel. It cost me over $400 just to have the dealer install the remote start on my 2010 so this seems a bargain. Remote start is a must have for me on hot and cold days, the rest is gravy.

Rear camera park assist group $595 - HIGH the camera is quite useful as are the parking sensors.

Uconnect 8.4AN Navigation - HIGH I had to pay $695 for the dealer to install this as my 2014 Big Horn wasn't optioned with it. I think its a $500 option if the factory installs it. Nav has proven useful in the several years I have had it.

Polished Aluminum Wheels $175 - HIGH this is quite the deal if you are like me and the chrome clad wheels make you want to barf. These wheels are very nice and include OWL tires if that's your thing. I'm really happy mine had this from the factory, what do aftermarket wheels cost? A lot more than $175.

Premium Group 9 speakers and sub $300 - HIGH this was not even on my radar but my Big Horn came with this option and it sounds really nice.

Spray in bedliner $475 - I really wanted this option but my Big Horn didn't come with it. I was going to have the dealer install it for $525 then said the hell with it, I'll just install a BedRug like I had in my 2010. BedRug = Awesome!

Center Console - I had a bench seat on my 2010, the center console is far more useful. It has multiple spots to set/stow things and a cavernous storage compartment. With these big smart phones, head sets, reading glasses, smokes, I need room for my stuff.

Leather Seats - I like leather but I'm no longer willing to buy thousands of dollars worth of packaged options I don't want to get leather. Dumping leather from my list let me go with a Big Horn and avoid these. Moonroof, RAMBox, airbags, bah I don't need them and just those are almost $4k.

I have many options but the only "must haves" is the easy to read 8.4 screen, sat. radio because I drive in many remote areas, and the heated steering wheel & seats because my truck gets parked outside. Wish I had remote start.

I like my keyless entry alot. It's not a must have, but it's really convenient to never have to take your keys out of your pockets to unlock doors or start the truck (pushbutton start). Just place your hand under the handle and it unlocks "instantaneously". Keys can stay in your pants or coat pocket at all times.

Only option I don't have is NAV, which can be turned on for $700, but that's what my iPhone is for.

The NAV is not as user friendly as it could be. I'd much rather use my phone than the NAV in my truck for speed and ease of use. But, having that big map right there in the dash is probably safer than looking down at your phone.

Thats pretty awesome. So is the heated steering wheel that good? I was just talking with my wife about the heated steering wheel and I'm wondering how much I'll like it.

Remote start will be awesome when its hot/cold outside!!

Got one in my truck and does it ever get warm. Infact, when my hand are warmed up, I usually turn it off.

I'm in Canada though, gets cold here.

Full center console w/shifter (Where would you rest your right hand if you didn't have that ? Sorry, a truck was never meant to be shifted with a knob on the dash)

What is everyone's opinions on the bucket seats with console? I drove one and it didn't let me angle my gas leg to the right as much as I wanted. The guys on the 1500diesel forum all prefer the bench seat even in the Laramie for long drives etc. I am wavering back and forth on which to get. I like the console just wish it was much lower.

^ I would think it's kind of a thing where you'd have to feel it on your test drive. I have the buckets and centre console in my 2500 and I love it. Doesn't bother my driving style at all.

Not sure if it's any different in the 1500s?

When I first started shopping I had a pretty short list. Once I finally researched the options and "built" my truck, I had a pile of must-haves. The truck I ended up with has most of the things I wanted and a few I didn't require (protection group, 32-gall fuel tank, block heater). The must haves were:

Hemi
Quad cab
Comfort group
Luxury group
LSD
trailer brake (dealer added)
back up camera
remote start
8.4A touchscreen (non-nav)
auto climate (didn't end up getting this one :( )

I see this got brought back to the top of the list... Did the original guy get his truck? I'm curious if he got all of his options and what he thinks of them now. :)
