So my 1988 D250 BUT 318 3 SPEED automatic . I filled it up / or rather I put in 30.00 worth. I've just started driving this truck. But I've used it on my farm for 2 years . I've been just filling it from 5 gallon cans . But this Thanks Giving I was off a few days & I got it inspected & the tags on it & Insured . So I've driven it to town Several time & It might be getting 6 MPG. so I put gas in it . but I need to stop it at 3/4 full. SO i HAD the key on to watch it fill . & I Stop & give it time to catch up . TOOK MAYBE 7 MINUTES TO PUT FUEL IN IT . i GOT MY RECEIT & When I cranke it to leave . It just spun over . No Crank just spin over.
I cranked about a full minute & Turned the key off. WOW . So I waited about a minute & Hit it again . VEROOM & OFF I GO ... I drove about 4 miles & as I pull up to a stop light It dies way before I get to the stop area.
..... I figure I'm about to have a toe.
.... But I turned the key off. & THEN RESTARTED IT UP & i DROVE IT ABOUT 10 MILES HOME AT 65 NO PROBLEM AT ALL.
.... I GOT HOME & IT IDELD just prefect. wELL BEATS being toew home .
... But any thoughts on what could have made it die & Not start.
Thanks ..

could maybe be a failing fuel pump or maybe a hall effects sensor. also if it is getting 6mpg and you are doing a bit of highway driving you may also need a new oxygen sensor.
