I find the tailgate on my 2500 to be the lightest I have ever owned without the assist......my F250 was a lead balloon and even my 2001 Tundra (which I still daily drive) is heavier to open and close than the Ram.

I can't imagine it with assist.......

It should be oem, but it needs to be beefed up from the dee-zee model so it will work in the extreme cold.

i have a new 2016 and it did not come with it.. as a matter of fact i was so use to the assist on my old ram, the first time i put the tailgate down on the 16 i almost dropped it, caught it with my thumb which felt like i broke it, which is why i came in an ordered the assist.. because it was not on it...

now if you are telling me that this should have had one on it, and i just bought one... i am going to look into it..

Damn buddy! I am 46, going to physical therapy for a bad shoulder and dont complain about the tailgate weight. I dont think its heavy.

lol, my kids and wife tell me all the time i am old, maybe it is just me starting to believe them.. damn kids...

its not really that heavy, but the assist makes it better.. to be able to hit the handle and then just let it fall is where the satisfaction comes.

It's more about having my hands full every time I need to lower it. Don't want to unload to drop the tailgate.
