Removed my factory installed REQ or whatever it's called in my truck today and installed an REN I bought off another guy. Powered up, functions, etc. Everything works but the sound sounds like utter ^%@$!#.

I've done a lot of searching and I've seen it stated that going from one to the other on certain vehicles requires having the factory amp reflashed due to higher gain settings on one radio over another.

The sound I'm getting basically sounds like clipping at lower volumes, the clipping goes away when it's turned up a bit but then the music loses all depth and sounds like a mid 70's am radio in a cutless with sun bleached paper speakers.

Is the dealer reflash what I'm needing here? I just want a little clarification before I head up there. Thanks guys.

Scratch that question, I just updated to 9.292 and it fixed it completely. I would have never thought an update could solve a problem like that but she's working like a champ.

How did you update?

All update information is listed here by radio part number for each head unit. The instructions for burning the update to CD and installing it into your head unit are at the bottom. Worked out great once I read all the instructions.
