Troubleshooting NO CRANK, still again, whatever --- I had to have it towed home the last time I drove it and now having time to work on it. I found this mystery part dangling inside my console under the steering column. I was able to determine that the numbers there refer only to the connector, NOT the potentiometer looking dealie-o.

Does anybody know what it is or what it is supposed to be or used to be?

Look ma! No immobilizer module! I should have figured that, right?

And when I tried to unplug those two little plugs there to get a look at the ignition switch, (because that is the circuit I need to troubleshoot) the yellow one completely disintegrated into crumbs on the floor. Now what? I didn't get either one of them unplugged! Can somebody tell me what I broke? :) Thanks. :) IMG_20200406_122426111.jpgIMG_20200406_122426111.jpg IMG_20200406_122546671.jpg IMG_20200406_122602963.jpg IMG_20200406_122855951.jpg IMG_20200406_122546671.jpg IMG_20200406_122602963.jpg IMG_20200406_122855951.jpg

I don't know why those pictures posted twice. I KNOW I only uploaded them once. :-/ My apologies.

That's your brake interlock, bubba. It probably never occurred to you to try it, but right now you can put your truck in gear without stepping on the brake. That normally sits on the cable up on the column shifter and is what prevents you from putting it in gear until you press the brake. Looks like someone had an issue and just pried it off. Usually looks like this:

A moment of stunned silence. omg. Thank you, though. It was seriously just hanging loose in there.

Do you happen to know what that yellow connector under the steering wheel is for? That crumbled when I tried to unplug it. The plastic was just very brittle. I didn't mess with it today but I guess I am going to have to repair that, too.

It's my understanding that any yellow(like the Crayola crayon color) connector in a vehicle has something to do with the airbag system. Careful when working with them.

That's what I was afraid of. I have the battery disconnected, of course. Ugh. Ok thanks.

Maybe because the previous owner was tired of having to step on the brake to shift out of park because some idiot Audi drivers couldn't tell the brake from the accelerator pedal. ;-)
