Navigation mod?

Is there a navigation mod for the 8.4? $500 is outrageous from the dealer. I can buy a top of the line tomtom for 200. Thanks in advance

You can do it yourself for ~$400 via navrepair.com. You won't get all the features of the 8.4AN, like traffic, 3D and topo maps.

Many here replaced their 8.4A with a used 8.4AN radio for ~400-$500. There are a couple threads in the audio section I think.

You could upgrade to the RA4 8.4 AN ( A American) ( N navigation ) with Navigation $550 approx ( plug n play for you Sir )

You will likely loose the use of the uconnect apps .

Then sale your non Nav 8.4" RA4 radio here for $250 -$300

Below is a link for the OEM radio upgrade . Most will not apply to you because you already have the RA4 8.4A ( non Nav ) radio .

Honestly, your best option would be the garmin gps. Just hard wire in a hidden 12v plug under your dash and hide all the wires.

Its is better because:

-it's cheaper.

-better gps signal (I think they use something like 9 satellites).

-can be operated w/o having to be in park.

-can be removed and used in any vehicle.

-wayyyy more accurate than stock nav.

-displays your speed, alt, speed limit, traffic delays, rerouts, road closures, etc etc.

-to update (lifetime) just plug it into your computer.

-trading in/selling your truck? Remove it and put it in the next one.

-theres more, I'm just done pooping now. [emoji90]

Personally, I've found Google maps on my phone much easier to use an more accurate than my Garmin or Rand McNally TND truck GPS. It's also continuously updated and it talks to you through your speakers via Bluetooth.

I guess its a matter of preference. I don't like google maps for directions and routing as you drive. Too distracting and lacks details. I don't like relying on voice prompts. For traffic is pretty good, especially for real time updating and the big picture. One does need cell phone service, however. And there are parts of the US that cell service is weak at best. I'm usually running google maps on my iPad to see the map better.
