Hi folks,

This is my first post, so I guess I owe an introduction. I've been a Dodge fan since I've owned a Viper in the early 2000's and last year bought a used 99 SLT Laramie for my ranch in Central Oregon. I like it, and my dogs seem to love it even more !
It seems to be that the exhaust is starting to act up (still OEM) and I am now looking for a replacement. Objective would be to do this myself (I live pretty remote) when I visit the property (I only spend about 30 days a year over here - I know, long story). There is no need for performance (I own a 600HP sports car on the East Coast), but I would not object against a more efficient flow and/or better fuel economy.
There is no issue with salt being used here in Winter, so in conjunction with hardly seeing any usage (maybe a 1,000 miles a year), what would you guys recommend ? Would be great if I can just order from Amazon or eBay and have it dropped off at the ranch. Thanks !

Yves

Tell me what "acting up" means? Clanking, lack of performance, general obnoxiousness?

Welcome to RF! :)

Thank you Sir !

Well, the exhaust seems to make a weird sound at low rpm when under heavier load (e.g. going up a hill). Last year when I bought the car I was warned that it would need a new exhaust sooner than later. I had it inspected by a dealer. Car came out perfect aside from this one issue.

Like kind of a rumbling grumbling sound? If so that's merely the engine lugging/bogging down.

You MIGHT have the cat going out if it's anything else.

New high flow cat and a flow master high flow muffler...... that with help your fuel eco by allowing it to breathe better and its less cash out the pocket than an $800 exhaust system

Magnaflow high flow cat and Magnaflow 14" muffler are my recommendations. They sound awesome and are supposedly more efficient. I plan on ditching my flowmaster and stock cat and going with the above setup. Only cost about $200-$220 depending on what kind of deal ya get. Prob wanna add a short length of pipe to clamp in so everythings connected if ya want to utilize the stock tailpipe otherwise you can get a Magnaflow kit with the 14". Not sure how much that is tho

I have Flowmaster on my truck and love it! Sounds great, improved mpg a tiny bit, and uses all the factory hanger locations so installation is simple.

I agree with DD94 about the catalytic converter going bad.
