I have had a used 2015 RAM 1500 Laramie, 5.7 Hemi for 3 years. I've put 20,000 km's (~12,400 miles) on it since I've owned it and it now has 230,000 km's (~143,000 miles). I baby this truck and do all to maintain it. I love learning about auto mechanics. I drive this truck year-round and due to living in Canada, that means during the hot summers and very cold winters, here.
Since buying and driving it, I get a re-occuring P3425 code and engine light. I have a "TOPDON AD600S Car OBD2 Scanner Code Reader Diagnostic Tool" and I frequently lookup and clear this code, which is the P3425 (Cylinder 4 Deactivation/Intake Valve Control Circuit/Open) code.

What I have noticed about this code appearing is that it only appears during the warmer spring and summer months and NEVER during the very cold winter months. Also, the code seems to appear if I hit / drive over a large, hard bump, but again, only during the warmer months and NEVER during cold months. So I drive through 5 months of very cold weather and as soon as the seasons change, I start to get this code and engine light. I clear it and I'm good for awhile, then I hit a bump and it comes back.

In looking up this code, my truck experiences absolutley NONE of the regular engine symptoms that this code says may occur, like 1) engine misfires, 2) increased fuel consumption, or 3) rough idle or engine hesitation. NONE of these symptoms occur and my truck seems to mechanically work and run great.

I've read up on and bought all of the parts on how to replace the MDS solenoids and the VVT solenoid, but befor this DIY'er starts removing the entire intake manifold, does anyone know if I'm headed in the right direction to fix this VERY ODDBALL problem? Does anyone have any advice on what is actually the underlying problem?

I'm forever in your debt and all advice is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

If it only happens after hitting a bump, I would start first by checking the connectors on both ends of that circuit, then I'd check the wiring harnesses that are involved. Get a helper to watch the light and such while you wiggle the wires.
A lot of problems like that can be solved in the driveway by just wiggling wires.
