Any advice on break in procedures or times? Thanks.

From the Manual-- http://www.ramtrucks.com/en/owners/manuals/

ENGINE BREAK-IN RECOMMENDATIONS
A long break-in period is not required for the engine and
drivetrain (transmission and axle) in your vehicle.
Drive moderately during the first 300 miles (500 km).
After the initial 60 miles (100 km), speeds up to 50 or
55 mph (80 or 90 km/h) are desirable.
While cruising, brief full-throttle acceleration within the
limits of local traffic laws contributes to a good break-in.
Wide-open throttle acceleration in low gear can be detrimental
and should be avoided.
The engine oil installed in the engine at the factory is a
high-quality energy conserving type lubricant. Oil
changes should be consistent with anticipated climate
conditions under which vehicle operations will occur. For
the recommended viscosity and quality grades, refer to
“Maintenance Procedures” in “Maintaining Your Vehicle

I drove it with hard acceleration not letting it sit at the same rpms for too long. At 2500ish miles 6 months later its doing fine has a touchy pedal and doing exactly what I want it to. :)

Break-in? I bought mine at the end of the model year new off the lot with 600 miles on it--that mileage cost them a lot, not me. I'm not burning oil and just had a normal oil change at 8K mi, so I think I got a good break-in by all the test drviers before me. :signs6:

I'm the guy that does 3/4 throttle accelerations in manual mode locked in 1st or 2nd and then let off and let the engine slow the vehicle down. I do several of those (after proper warm up) to seat the rings both ways, and then change the oil right away. #1 I like to know what kind of oil is in it, #2 I want to get all the mfg crap out of it right away. 150 miles is about right for me. Then I don't go to syn based oils until 5-6000 miles.

What's the reasoning behind no synthetic for the 5-6k?? I run an automotive shop and all these rumors between non and synthetic I have found to be myths. If your vehicle is gonna leak oil, it's gonna leak oil regardless of what ya put in it. The only difference is that synthetic is more resistant to molecule break down but should still be changed just as often due to the fact that it still collects the same amount of dirt.

I want to get a proper break so I want to break it in with dino and then move to syn based oils. It has NOTHING to do with leaks.

I've followed this method now several times.

If the dealer puts in DINO then why change it as you stated earlier?

Did you read the info in the link I posted? Check out all the Q&A's. ;)

I know a LOT of guys on various forums that use this method and have had great luck with it. I'm not saying it's the absolute gospel, but it's worked well for me and others.

I got my 2013 just over a month ago. It had 80 miles when I bought it. Now has just over 500. 90% of that is city miles. I drive the speed limit and don't have a lead foot. Am I doing my new truck an injustice? Thanks for any input

That's nothing new, that break-in cycle theory has been around for at least 35 years.
The very first high performance 396 big block Chebby i built back in 81,my engine builder told me to break it in the same way it was gonna get drove,in other words drive it hard, right from word go.
Same theory applied then as the above link, drive it hard to seat the rings.

Thanks. I've been on my phone all day. I'll check it out when I get home.
