Hi all,

Truck has been running like a champ since I got it all back together last October. If anyone recalls I did head, cam, lifterd, mds solenoids, coil packs, plugs, timing chain, water pump.

Fast forward to yesterday driving down the highway on my way to the airport running great and bam, check engine light comes on and I can feel a miss in the engine. I managed to pull off the highway and check the code: P2305”Ignition coil secondary circuit. ” cylinder 2. I got it to the airport as I did not feel this was anything mechanical. Checked the codes again and the P0302 was now there too. That makes sense if the coil isn’t firing.

I had to get on that plane for business now I am planning on what to do when I get back. I am going to purchase a coil and plugs and replace them in the parking garage. If that doesn’t work, is is safe to drive it like that for 50 miles, mostly highway?

Should I disconnect the #2 injector so no gas is being fed to the cylinder?
Should I also disable #3 to keep engine balance?

The failure was instantaneous, like the coild failed, but how common is that? These were Amazon replacements so now I suspect maybe Chinese crap?

Thoughts? I return home on the 5th.

Just swap with a different cylinder, and see if the miss follows. I would swap only one item then test .
No sense in buying parts you may not need.

If you did change coils with azon ,but still have an original , and you determine you have a failed coil,I would replace with it with the OEM

Follow Daws advice, and when you get it back home,if you still have the original coils,re-install them, they're the best coils, and blow the majority of aftermarket coils into the weeds as far as longevity and spark output goes.I'd scrounge up used OEM coils and use them long before i'd use an aftermarket coil. You can clean them and stick new boots and springs on your original coils, and odds are they'll be as good as new again.

Cautionary tale, doing a big job pat attention to every part. What coils packs did you get? I would have went OEM but I do believe some aftermarket ones are great, just name brand. @Wild one

Hopefully you fix it easy.

Even name brand coils aren't as good as the OEM coils Mike. If they were the guys pushing north of a 1,000 rwhp would be running them. The biggest issue with the majority of aftermarket coils, are a very short life expectancy.Nobody in the aftermarket has the same money as a manufacture has,and coils are the shortest way to better fuel milege and better emissions,so the OEM's spend a fair bit of money making sure they have the best coils they can get.
I'd run used OEM coils that have been cleaned up and rebuilt with new boots and springs, long before i'd run a coil from NGK / MSD / Ripp etc.

Thanks everyone. Alas, original coils are long gone. I had to buy parts now as the truck is on the third floor of the parking garage at Tampa International.

I will be armed with tools, wire, splices, new coil, etc. It is 50 miles to get it home.

If the coil doesn’t work, I am unplugging the injector to that cylinder and attempt to baby it home.

Lesson learned. I went cheap with Amazon because everything else cost me a fortune.

I am going to try and find a set of used OEM and clean them up.

For now, I have an NGK coming and hopefully get the immediate issue resolved.

Been running fine since Saturday. Used OEM coils arrived today but it is too damned hot out there to mess with it. I can wait for cooler weather and carry a spare with me just in case.
Clean them up then, and that way they'll be ready to go when it cools off.Post #3,will take you to how to clean them, and check the springs and contact points over for corrosion

P2305 ”Ignition coil secondary circuit" is an electrical problem, either not going low or loss of driver voltage.

I'd check for bad connections or try a different coil.
