I just bought my first new vehicle after owning only used cars and trucks all my life. I traded in my 2005 1500 SLT Hemi Quad Cab ( her name was Big Red ) on a new Tradesman. Comeplete 180 from my old truck. Smaller engine and no quad cab. I got 4WD and I don't have to plast dip all the chrome like I did on the old one. It fits the bill for what I need.
The only changes I plan on making are adding a bug shield to the hood, mud guards and somehow making the ugly factory steel wheels look better.
I've been on the gen 3 forum from time to time. Now it's time to introduce myself to my new gen 4 brethren and sistren.

It's the basic Tradesman 6 cylinder 4X4 with uconnect 3.0 and popular equipment group. Carpet and cloth seats manual locks and windows. Tow package, spray in bed liner with rail caps, step bars.

Nothing spectacular at all. I down sized some from my old SLT quad cab hemi. This one made sense. I blacked out the bumpers on the old one. This one has black bumpers. I don't cart around the family anymore so no need for extra seats. Finally I never towed anything heavy enough or often enough to need such a big engine not to mention my commute is three miles. Can't get into it too hard with that short of a trip anyway. What I do need is the 4X4. The old SLT was terrible in even the lightest snow. My wife's mustang isn't so hot in the snow either.

Eventually I will swap out the wheels and add some mudguards but that's about it

ADUBIS congratulations on the new RAM. I very recently went the opposite direction. I had a 2014 RAM 1500 Tradesman Regular Cab with a Pentastar V6 and 3.21. With intentions of buying a larger travel trailer I upgraded to a 2017 RAM 1500 Quad Cab, 5.7L Hemi and 3.21. It has a lot of bells and whistles that were missing in the Tradesman which I missed. You are really going to like the Pentastar. I think it is one of the best V6 engines on the market. I pulled our 4800# loaded Winnebago almost 10,000 miles including over 11,000' in the Colorado mountains. Ran great.

The rear end in the new truck is the same. I looked up Dodge's towing capacity on their web site. It said something like 4800 pounds max towing. I thought it was supposed to pull more like 7500 pounds but I could be mistaken. I dont plan on towing too often as it is but its good to know the truck can handle it

Yes you are correct, 4800# with the 3.21 rear end. but 7100# with the 3.55 rear end. I doubt you will need the 7100# capacity. With my new truck the capacity is only 8300# with the 3.21 rear end. We just got through with a 380 mile camping trip and it ran great.:happy107:
