Hello!
I just purchased a 2009 Dodge Ram 1500 Sport a couple months ago and was wondering if anyone could give me some insight on replacing the stereo unit with something more modern that supports apple car play, not looking to spend a ton of money maybe a couple hundred bucks, any help on products and what not would be awesome. Im fairly mechanically inclined but never really screwed around with a stereo system before.
Thanks everyone

You should be able to buy a wiring harness so you can plug the new radio into the stock plug, it's easier to splice the wiring that way.
You'll want to read up on the radio you're thinking of installing. See what other say about operation, I think Kenwood and Panasonic rados usually get recommended from people on this forum. If you can swing a radio with wireless CarPlay/AndroidAuto it's a great feature to have.

Check out Crutchfield, you can search what fits your vehicle with the options your looking for. https://www.crutchfield.com/
Yep Crutchfield all the way they are great used them on my last two vehicle head unit installs got me a Kenwood DDX276BT in mine they will line you up with all that you need plus even though I have done my share of head unit wiring harness adapter connections for 20 bucks they do it for you but the one thing I did not like about that they take no wire off before hand so if both adapter and radio harness are 12inchs you will have 24 inchs of harness to get put some where in that dash all and all for that reason I will do my next harness myself. But yeah will use crutchfield again for sure0508211251.jpg

This is the one ive been looking at, https://www.crutchfield.com/p_104BE10ACC/Boss-BE10ACP-C.html?tp=5684 Dont really have the money to be spending a ton of cash on a head unit. How hard would this be to install for a stereo rookie such as myself
I installed one of those units into a customer's 2009 Ford Escape. Thought it was pretty decent for the money. Camera looked ok but not the sharpest I've seen. As far as installation, Crutchfield will recommend dash kits, SWC and wiring harnesses to make installation easier but with all installs, something will always come up. In the case of this Escape, one of the speaker wires was in a different location on the harness which need to be depinned and put in the proper location.

Running the wiring for the camera can be a pain if you haven't done it before. Look for some videos on YouTube and take your time.
