I was given a 2004 ram 1500 4 door 4x4 with the 4.7. the guy said the engine made a bunch of noise and started spitting oil out of a hole in the valve cover. I took the valve cover off today and one of the lifters had destroyed it's hole and the rocker was laying on it's side at the bottom area. I know the head is gone, I will be checking with a boroscope in a few days to see if the piston or cylinder walls are destroyed as well.

I don't know much about full size trucks so my question is if it is worth it to try and find a used 4.7 for this or if it is even feasible to put a 5.7 in. So far I have 0 dollars in this truck and am curious if these trucks are worth fixing for camping rigs?8919.jpg8921.jpg

If the short block checks out you could probably get away with replacing the head and calling it good.
