New to the Forum - Already need a new Tranny

Hi. Just bought my 2001 5.9 Off Road edition this last weekend. Something seemed wrong on the test drive, transmission was shifting at 3k rpm. I didn't think much of it, may be a misadjusted TV cable. Turns out the transmission doesn't have a 2nd gear. Its shifting straight from first to third and skipping second. It won't manually upshift into second, but will manually downshift into second and all I get is slipping. Its like 2nd is neutral.

I took the truck to a tranny shop. they quoted me $1900-2300 to have it upgraded and rebuilt. Does this sound about right?

Anyway. I used to have a 2003 5.7 SLT Sport, and loved that truck, but this 2001 is turning out to be pretty cool (minus the transmission issues).

Sorry to hear about it. The transmission is actually something we tell people to be wary of when they're looking at a 2g truck.

Beautiful truck... it is a shame that people take advantage of buyers like this.
I would go back to the guy that sold it to ya last weekend. They sold you a truck with a bad tranny. The price quote from the shop is accurate. If you are more than a little mechanically included and have the time and patience you can do it yourself for about half that.

Okay cool. That's what I was thinking. I am pretty mechanically inclined. I just don't have the time and patience you were talking about . Thanks for the quick replys.

You might have a look at this option, it's what I went with as it came with the best warranty I could find and it's remanufactured not a rebuild. It came with a 3 year 160 mile warranty and I could not find better than that up here. Patc would be the best option.
